I bought FS2024 originally on the ms store on windows. I tried to run it in my index, and it would always show waiting. I looked around and my pc met all specs for Index VR and running the game. However, no matter what I tried or how-to I followed i couldnt get it to load in. Currently on my screen I see the split image, and in my headset it shows waiting. But there is no tracking going on with the headset. So, I purchased it on steam, thankfully everything I purchased transferred over. I was running a i7-10700k and a 3070ti. I have since upgraded my pc to a i9-11900k and a 5070ti and it is still doing the same thing. I have uninstalled steam VR, and reinstalled it, I have tried running steamVR beta, I have reduced graphics settings. However my valve index will not for whatever reason load MSFS in VR. And, any other game works fine, iRacing, Beatsaber, PokerstarsVR, Half-life: Alyx, the works.
PC specs currently:
i9-11900k
64g DDR4 ram
Asus TuF 5070ti
m.2 SSD main drive with Windows 10 Pro
Samsung 850Evo 2tb SSD storage for Steam
Steam
Steam VR
Valve Index.
Ya, sounds like you may have a msfs identity problem. Probably best to contact msfs support imho. I also have a native SteamVR headset (Vive Pro1) and it works fine.
I purchased it on steam, because someone told me they might have solutions if I was going through steam and not the MS store. So I deleted the main version I had, bought the base version on steam and thankfully everything transferred. However it did not solve my issue. And, yes the steam vr message that says waiting (when you start to load a game) as stated It shows the split screen, but it never loads into the headset.
Two things I would change; set your global video manually (not auto) to 100% and try lowering your refresh rate to 90fps (what I use with my VP1). With my Vive Pro1/i913900k/rtx4090 I set msfs app settings separately to 350% with auto throttling enabled (don’t use msfs reprojection) and this helps make dlss (dlss/balanced is what I use with latest dlss4 overrides and preset K) cockpit a little clearer and with native steamvr reprojection it ends up at 45fps. With your setup you may want to try 250% to begin with.
Otherwise, contact steam support I guess. Good luck mate and cheers.
Dman that looks annoying as hell. Never seen anything like this.
Which OXR runtime are you using? I didn’t have time to watch the whole video. Not sure which one index is supposed to use, but I use the steamVR runtime, never had any issues. But I guess that’s what Index is probably using anyway.
If changing that doesn’t help and it’s an option for you, I would go nuclear and reinstall Windows. Definitely looks like a software issue.
Yea like I said its the only VR game with this issue. And, I was unaware that I needed to download OXR for flight sim because it’s suppose to be integrated. So I downloaded that to no avail. And i’m running the newest one now, GA-3 v1.3.2, and index is set to steamvr runtime
There’s no need to download anything. Do you mean OpenXR Toolkit (OXRTK)? That’s purely optional, although very useful.
If all your other VR games work fine with this setup, that’s very strange. Again, I would nuke Windows just because MSFS is pretty much the only game I play on PC and it’s not a huge deal for me, I’ve done it a few times, also to fix VR issues (it worked).
Obviously this isn’t a great option but it’s the only idea I have, sorry.
Yea the toolkit, because I saw it apparently helps the connection between the game and the headset, which it didnt. And I really hope to not, because I do iRacing, Star Citizen, and alot of other games ect, and id rather not have to configure all the addons again, sadly its looking like the only option. I even went to steamvr beta windows 7/8 oculus support version, and it just stopped flight sim from entering the main menu. sigh
I suggest you stay away for all Beta’s. Nor do you need OpenXR Toolkit imho. Just follow the SteamVR settings I’ve already suggested and you should be good to go. The Index is one of the only native SteamVR heasets out there right now, that also only includes the OG Vive and OG Vive Pro 1. Again, if you only have a problem with msfs2020/2024 then I suggest you first try to verify your msfs2020/2024 installation (google how to do this) or contact Steam Support for more help.
Sorry I can’t be of more help mate. Good luck and best cheers.
