:white_check_mark: ISSUE DESCRIPTION

VR mode does not work for Valve Index via SteamVR
Switching to VR will change display on my flat monitor, meaning I see the 2 images rendering. Also, it will recognize the INPUT from the VR headset and change view according to headset position and orientation.

But there are no images INSIDE the headset, just the empty standard Steam area where I can see my sensors. (NOT SteamVR Home)

[END OF FIRST USER REPORT]

I updated to latest nvidia driver 566.14. Didn’t help :frowning:
Also tried a number of other VR applications (both Steam and non-steam). They all worked ok…

I’m using a Valve Index, I have issues like visual degradation in the environment (ie. outside the cockpit) in the center of the view (think foveated rendering, but in reverse) and blurry glass displays, but it works.

Latest Nvidia driver, SteamVR beta (but no Steam client beta), purchased MSFS on Steam. I’m also using the OpenXR Tookit (no longer maintained, afaik, I mainly use it for historical reasons to show the FPS).

Switching to the SteamVR beta might be worth a try, or playing with the “per-application video settings” for MSFS?

All good advice, thanks!
Nothing helped so far. I now tried with 3 VR headsets: Valve Index, PSVR2 and Meta Quest 3. All with the same problem - I can run all OpenXR apps just fine (via Steam or otherwise), but not MSFS2024. Removed and reinstalled all relevant SW (SteamVR beta, Oculus and PSVR2 apps), but nothing helps.

Maybe it’s just because I do not have MSFS via Steam? It is loaded and installed via Xbox store and app.

I do not know anything more to do. Sadly, I had my Valve Index running fine in MSFS 2020. Unfortunately I removed that before installing the 2024 version. Maybe would be worth trying to reinstall the old version again… :frowning:

It turned out that I am a complete Idiot :upside_down_face:

It works now - I simply forgot that I had set some OpenXR environment variables months ago to look into another problem. No OpenXR app so far had any problem with the settings, but MSFS did. Still, completely my fault.

Deleted the env vars and all is good now…

Moved to User Support Hub User Support Hub > Virtual Reality (VR) since a solution has been marked.

Can you tell me what you did to fix this? I prepurchased through ms store as well when I know I should have got it on steam. Every time I start the VR the audio switches to my headset, and my monitor splits the video, but on my headset it just shows FS2020 up next. It never loads the video and just sits on the up next (loading) screen. I even downloaded the windows mixed reality app for steam, to no avail.

I am a game developer myself and had some debug environment variables active for OpenXR development. Namely XR_API_LAYER_PATH, XR_CORE_VALIDATION_EXPORT_TYPE, XR_CORE_VALIDATION_FILE_NAME and XR_ENABLE_API_LAYERS.

After removing them all went back to normal

Ok, I am not a developer but am trying to figure this out, can you tell me how to get to that. Because Aside from steam VR and windows mixed reality that i downloaded off steam, every time I try to load vr in FS 2024 I get the waiting screen, but it never loads the game, and it doesnt register movement. I dont have any extra openXR software installed, and this is the only game ive had issues with.
