REPRODUCTION STEPS
Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:
-
Installed beta 1.6.3.0
-
Selected foveated rendering on VR (using Varjo Aero headset)
-
Worked like a charm! Beautifully!
-
Automatically updated to beta 1.6.5.0
-
Foveated rendering was already previously selected
-
No longer works dynamically; only works as Fixed Foveated Rendering
-
No way to get back to beta 1.6.3.0 that I’m aware of
YOUR SETTINGS
What VR headset and peripherals are you using: Varjo Aero
[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it? No
[PC Only] What GPU (Graphics Card) do you use? ASUS RTX5090 TUF GAMING 32G
[PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share? It was working on beta 1.6.3.0, so the only thing that changed was update to 1.6.5.0. There were no hardware or software updates otherwise.

Please add a screenshot or video of the issue occurring.
Hello, how do your see that it is fixed forveating only? I just did a test with similar hardware, varjo aero, MSI 5090, and for me it looks fine. Thanks to the new slider, I put 30% to get all the perf, and looks fine, clear.
Pascal
Hi Pascal,
I found out the same way as before, when only fixed foveated was working. Just look down, gauges are blocky, and if I move the head down slowly so that the blocky gauge goes towards the center of the screen, there’s a visible line when it shifts from blocky to crystal clear…
I’ll try it again tonight, maybe it’ll reset itself! I was so happy until this latest beta popped in!
Have a good one!
Me i have recheck and it is working fine. The only thing that does not work is in the fog/cloud I see a darker rectangle of the zone rendered. I think this is not specific to varjo and this rectangle follows my eyes. So may be you need to restart varjo base. Also I have to set a high priority of the tracking process otherwise when moving the head I have jitters..
Hey Pascal,
The darker rectangle that follows your eyes is the correct way of working. My issue is that for me, it’s no longer following my eyes, but rather the rectangle stays fixed in the middle of the screen (fixed foveated rendering).
What’s the name of the service that you gave high priority? I’m not sure that’ll help (for me), but I definitely want to try. Somehow, on the previous beta everything worked and with the latest it doesn’t anymore for me.
Also, what’s your Varjo Base version? It shouldn’t have affected because between working and not working it didn’t change versions, but I’m willing to try whichever version you have. There was an update to Varjo Base just yesterday, which didn’t fix it for me either.
Lastly, although again, it was active when it did work for me previously so it shouldn’t matter, are you using the OpenXR Toolkit?
Thanks! Trying to troubleshoot whatever I can!
So the process for me was to not have jitter when moving the head. I doubt it will fix your stuff.
Here the process that solve the jitter when I put in on high
and here headset & varjo base versions:
For that rectangle, do you know how to avoid it of if this will be solved?
Regards,
Pascal
Pascal,
Not sure if the rectangle issue will be solved as that’s just how it works. Maybe they’ll find a better shade that’s less obvious, but that’s just how they implemented it. Hopefully they’ll find something that works better!
I figured out my issue but don’t know how to fix it.
Foveated rendering is working for me, but the axis is inverted somehow! I changed it from .50 to .20 so the rectangle is smallest and observed that it moves with my eyes in the opposite direction.
So if I look straight down the middle, it’s perfect. If I look left it moves right, and if I look right it moves left.
There are no settings in Varjo Base or MSFS 2024 for me to play with on that as far as I know… and it’s only an issue on MSFS2024 so I don’t know how to fix it!
Hope the developers look at this post and somehow fix it, but we with Varjo Aero are so few, I’m not very hopeful.
Thanks
Guys,
Since Pascal with a similar setup had his DFR working I knew something could be done.
Decided to: 1-remove OpenXR Toolkit, 2-uninstall Varjo Base, 3-factory reset Varjo settings, 4-install newest version of Varjo Base directly from Varjo, 5-reset DLSS (from DLSS Swapper) to latest MSFS beta of 310.1
Lo and behold, it worked!
Now I don’t know which of these made the trick, but I’m super happy to have Dynamic Foveated Rendering working properly on the Varjo Aero!
