This was my very first Cross the Pond on VATSIM experience and it was maybe one of the most fun events I’ve ever done on a flight sim. VATSIM has organized this so well, our custom briefings, all of the amazing ATC every single minute of the way… such fun. 7 hours (Lisbon to Philadelphia) and I made it safely. AND I had no long haul performance issues on the Heavy 787 mod. Whew!!!
If you haven’t joined VATSIM, get on it. It’s made flying SO MUCH MORE fun.
I took part in today’s event with 787 Heavy division mod. My sim crashed 3 hours into the flight. After the selcal check, I took off my headset and plugged it in for charging and I am not sure if that caused the crash. I was looking forward to this event for a long time and it was devastating. Now I gotta wait for 6 more months
Vatsim should consider organizing this event more frequently (perhaps once every 2 months).
I had some out-patient surgery and am currently unable to SIT at my desk and fly. I still need to join VATSIM also. I’m going try to get all this done before their next event.
It was a great flight , there is still a framerate loss over time in the Sim.
I really hope they fix it soon , I started with 60fps and ended with 25 to 20 fps
Great experience doing Cross the Pond , This was my 10 th Crossing
Don’t know if they should kill it, but it does take up the network for a day, and gives preference to a small group of simmers, over the general VATSIM users that can’t, or don’t want to participate. That alone flies in the face of the spirit of the VATSIM CoC.
Maybe they should hold CTP on off hours? Starting at say, 03:00 UTC? This way, it won’t impact non-participants on the network.
I never notice any degradation of ATC services at any of Vatsims covered areas during any of their wonderful events. Vatsim is a wonderful experience for those looking for flight simulator realism with real live ATC.
Agreed, I’ve flown GA IFR flights on vatsim on the eastern seaboard of the US while this event was happening, and had a blast. I know I enjoyed having a realistic amount of traffic on the freq for once, and it seemed the controllers did too.
Can’t imagine why anyone would want to cancel an event that actually makes the network what it’s intended to be?
