I have the same issue. Today tried sim update 5 over new york with live weather.
Wind changes from 0 to 60 ktn at a certain altitude.
It‘s probably a mixture of wrong weather data and the handling of that in the sim.
When the sim receives the information about changed wind from live weather data in a certain location or altitude, it should probably do a smooth transition, instead of changing it from one moment to the other.
I was getting some odd shifts from weird 0 winds and 15 deg C at FL200 to a more correect 150 @ 20kt winds and -15 deg C (checked with Windy.com) on my last flight.
Kept switching every few minutes.
I think it’s something to do with server load, so I’d probably wait a bit and see whether it resolves itself once the initial spike from xbox release and massive uptick in PC players testing the update dies down a bit.
Then again the hotfix due on the 30th said it’s fixing high temps at high altitudes, maybe somewhat related.
I was thinking this issue was related to the A32NX, and I posted in a bug submission by someone else.
The FLyByWire team confirmed is a bug with the game itself.
This is the link to the submitted issue, including the videos I uploaded showing the behaviour.
I concur this happened occasionally before, but it has become almost continuous since Update 5. Especially during climb or descent, winds will suddenly shift to a new value. No smooth transition. Just suddenly here are the new winds. If you were running anywhere close to the red line in a descent, it is entirely too easy to ‘overstress’ the aircraft now. Why are wind changes not smoothed out over at least a minute or 2?
Voted, this just happened to me on a flight from Newark (EWR) to Costa Rica (SJO) in the A320. Trying to get to cruising altitude and constantly finding “pockets” where I quickly went from almost stalling to overspeed (less than Mach 0.5 to more than Mach 0.8 in an instant). It made the flight impossible.
I was able to confirm it was live weather’s fault since switching to one of the presets got rid of the issue.
I think it has to do with the reported metar winds changing to reported meteoblue winds. They use the metar winds around airports and meteoblue winds outside of airports. They mentioned in the latest q&a they will improve this in SU7 update.
Asobo mentions that they are ‘looking into popcorn clouds’ in their bug list, “Known Issues”. No mention of the extreme wind and pressure shifts that knock planes out of the sky. I barely want to use the sim anymore as I’m never sure if I’ll be swatted out of the sky or not by violent wind and pressure transitions. This is a MAJOR issue that needs a fix!
