Earlier, this post was about using a GeForce 1660 Super on Nvidia Graphics Driver 457.30, which proved to be the best driver for performance, at the time.
I believe those settings are now obsolete in my opinion, and I will now share what I did instead:
Updated the Nvidia Graphics driver to the latest version 466.27
In Nvidia Control Panel, click “Adjust image settings with preview”
Choose “Let the 3D application decide”
In PhysX settings, set the PhysX-processor to your GPU
If you have G-Sync, enable it.
In MSFS, configure the settings to your like, I use the default High-End preset, with V-sync turned off.
This configuration is to use MSFS as Microsoft/Asobo probably wanted us to use it - without any extra settings from within Nvidia Control Panel. I usually fly 3-4 hour flights with the FBW A320NX and don’t experience any severe stuttering or lower performance towards the end of the flight.
You got the exact specs I have! Maybe we bought the same system? I was trying other settings where it stuttered more till a black screen! Thank you so much for this! I will bookmark and keep since it’s like a perfect fit this time.
I have the same board, same processor and same card and memory as you.
Wow its good to know our systems are the same. Bless you and thank you!!
Nice post. Thanks for sharing!
I’m searching solutions to better handle my 1440 ultrawide monitor on my RTX2060 - I7 system and tested your Windows and Nvidia settings (which was not done) : I got a 1-2 fps upgrade I guess.
Tried as you advised, promised I’ll get back to you.got up to about 30- 40 fps. Drops down in lepa and other airports though. Getting the same as you. Flyable..
Thank you for your detailled post about NVidia 1660 Super. I have the same graphics card. I try your settings. But I disagree in at least one:
FlightSimulator.exe deactivate Fullscreen Optimizations. I have NO check mark there. For me the video was snake oil salesman talk. But I tested and say: no impact or default (no checkmark) is better - but we talk about +1 fps or so.
I updated from NVidia driver 457.09 to 457.30 - I think it is an improvement. Because I am “MSFS 2020 beta tester” - without wanting - I don’t want to be NVidia beta tester, too. And my experience is: the latest driver is for the latest graphics cards, which the 1660 Super is not.
Hello Performance Hunters, i’ve done some digging and finally got some decent results to improve performance for all of u with a 1660 Super.
I had the issue of being ‘Limited by Main Thread’ to fix this I’ve changed some settings.
I dont have many High/Ultra settings (Only buildings are High) because I like to keep my frames above 40 ish on ground. In the skies I don’t really have any issues with frames.
LOD Terrain: i’ve set this to 20 Max 50.
This improves performance a lot if you have an issue with the main thread limiting
In Windows Settings:
you should switch off any type of virtualization, In windows and in the BIOS. For win10 follow these steps:
1.In Control Panel, select Programs and Features.
2.Select Turn Windows features on or off.
3.Expand Hyper-V, expand Hyper-V Platform, and then clear the Hyper-V Hypervisor check box
Also disable it in your BIOS as every motherboard is different you should check this yourself.
Overclocking: WARNING!
Overclock at your own risk especially your CPU. It can lead to damages if done drastically and irresponsibly. Don’t take the risk if you are not sure, Make sure you have adequate cooling and enough power resources before you start. I have a 700W supply and overclocking the CPU and GPU wont go over the threshold but make sure you do your own research before changing settings.
To overclock your GPU you might want to try and run the MSI Afterburnner overclocking scanner in the Afterburner app.
This will find a suitable overclocking profile. I use +120 on core clock and +900 on memory clock with these settings it has good performance and is stable. If you find that your stability issues you might want to look for other settings to overclock.
For your CPU you can overclock it aswell. I did this with the ‘Intel Extreme Tuning Utility’ I have a Intel I7-9700KF. Settings I’ve changed was setting the Performance Core Ratio to ‘48x’
in summary
On ground I have an average FPS between 45-50 FPS which in the air will improve a bit more because of less things to render in the air.
As always have everything up-to-date
Hope this helps someone and if you have any suggestions or things to add please let me know.
for the moment I’ll be on the hunt for more performance
