Video recording options and issues

Trying to record video, i need one-button for snapshot and one button for start/stop recording.

So far i have achieved this with XBox game bar and AntiMicroX to map the buttons.

But, why does recording record a small image with masses of green padding???

There must be a reason??

OBS is a better choice once you get the hang of it. You can then output to different formats and sizes, set up your own hotkeys and decide if you want your GPU or CPU to record with. And of course stream if you want to. With my PCIe4 NVMe I can record 4k at 60fps without so much as a frame drop.

I have no trouble with nvidia shadowplay (as installed via geforce experience), with 3440x1440 HDR up to 60fps recordings. Can stop and start at will, configurable hotkeys. Never seen a problem like you’re seeing with the small area / green padding.

Thanks all, i’ll switch to Geforce recording and try that.

I only chose the Xbox GameBar option as It is loaded anyway due to my using an xbox controller for the drone camera.

I’m still struggling with this point.

In the search for smoother flight, it was suggested to uninstall GeForce Experience, tried that and made little difference if any so GFE may well return.

I see OBS mentioned above so that is an option still.

XBox gamebar recording is foobar it seems and still records with a big green screen behind it so that option is out.

In all cases though I can see no way to trigger screen-shot and record start/stop via buttons on the yoke - it was so simple back in the x-box days and want to mimic that but software seems to just recognise keyboards - I hardly ever use the keyboard as i am now mult-monitor with touch panels etc.

I tried a little app called “AntiMicroX” which promised to map yoke inputs to keybindings - it worked but has a few major bugs which make it a non-starter, the main one being it does not remember/reload your bindings each time you start and the dev do not seem interested in fixing it.

Are there any options to get what i desire or am i restricted to keyboard only here?

I take it the green padding is because you use DLSS however if I remember rightly you can change the outputted size in Game Bar’s or Windows’ settings (which were not so easy to find). I don’t have GB installed so maybe someone else can help?

That makes a lot of sense as it does render at a smaller scale then upscales, i guess GeForce EXp bypasses this and outputs correctly.

Its the control options that are fooling me at present, might just have to bite it and use the blasted keyboard…

So, i went back to using the x-box game bar capture with a key to capture, I had a great shot in my helicopter, right over my house  and a nice steady hover too - took a picture or two.

However, when i closed the sim and went to my captures folder, i see screenshots of my logbook app instead - it seems somehow the logbook screen had the main focus for screenshots - i have multiple screens.

Totally useless, is there a recording/screenshot app that will only capture the main screen or at least a specific screen??? OBS maybe??

So annoying.

OBS has programmable hotkeys for just about everything you could ever want, I also find it gives the best results. It looks complicated at first but it’s pretty intuitive once you get the hang of it.

Can you specify a screen to capture as a default - not while in-sim ?

From what I see you can from any source available
