Virpil Flight Yoke

That would be great. If could take my Yoko handle, and put it on to the Brunner I would already have bought it. :grinning:

I think I read someone say the Virpil wonā€™t be FFB. Iā€™m hoping further success with 2024 will lead to explosion of FFB gear, and some standards get set, or adopted.

This is part of the official announcement from Virpil in their forum.
ā€œ When Can I Buy It?
We will be launching the Advanced Flight Yoke Project as a Kickstarter campaignstarting on 1st October, 2024!
I just assumed it would be available then but what do I know.
Also donā€™t know what or where is Kickstarter if I did want to buy one.
Is it a website? Is it a partnership with Virpil and still buy it on Virpil website? I just donā€™t know.

Kickstarter has its own website. It is a bootstrapping site where developers can hook up with people interested in the ideas they have. Basically, people can donate money to a project at different levels. The different levels come with some sort of ā€œperkā€ to encourage participation. It is like ā€œinvestingā€ in a company, but without having any ownership and, therefore, having no participation in the profits if the company is successful; however, a person may be able to get the product being promoted at a reduced price or, sometimes, even ā€œfreeā€ if the company creating the kickstarter is successful at bringing it to market. There is always a high possibility of never seeing what you ā€œinvestedā€ in. In the case of Virpil, they are fairly well-established so the risk of failure should be low. If you google kickstarter, you can get more details.

Got the CLS-60 a week ago and can confirm itā€™s amazing. Downsides are the lack of FFB profiles for different aircraft, which means you have to tune it for every new aircraft you fly. This can be difficult since I have no real life experience in a 737, for example.

Also, the lack of switches and ignition on the front of the unit makes me miss my Honeycomb Alpha just a little.

Nothing is perfect!

Maybe get one of these and stick it on top?

Yes they do, wrote that in a statement. Also they will be into Force Feedback but done right this needs time, they also saidā€¦

Iā€™m sure they will put out an FFB yoke eventually, because companies always want to sell a person another expensive piece of equipment again and again, instead of just putting it into the device in the first place.

Donā€™t do it. That yoke deserves better.

To be fair even Asobo said recently that FFB support needs some more time to figure out and define. These are early products that hopefully we will see more of as the whole thing matures.

You are right but still itā€™s a great experience atm, if only for the resistance (which regular yokes lack) and the fact that there are no center detents. The added effects are mostly phony, tbh

I donā€™t fully agree that regular yokes have no resistance. Mine has a considerable amount that increases the further from centre you get. Itā€™s certainly a cue to let you know the aircrsff needs trimming. Obviously itā€™s not the same as true FFB where the yoke position should remain in the same position but itā€™s way better than the lack of feedback you get from say a joystick or yoke with very weak resistance.

Thanks for the reply, appreciate it!
Having not bought my first yoke, it is difficult deciding just which one would suit me!
The cls60 is over my limit and the lower end yokes do not appeal to me.
Honeycomb seems just about right but we know what is going on there.
Some stores have the Bravo but not the XPC which has the Hall effect sensors.
Guess I am going to have to wait a bit longer

All of these ā€œFFB is too young, too immature at presentā€ claims make me smile. I have been using nothing else since 1997.

I, though an avid ffb user, would say that there is a lot of currently unusable potential as telemetry data can not be fed directly in any ffb software.
So itā€™s not possible to know how to set the sliders to get a result close to how it would feel on a certain type of airplane. Atm itā€™s just guesswork.

It is. But nobody here or no developer will have flown the B 2, the B24 or probably the B52. Nor will they have flown most of the aircraft depicted within the simulator either, be it classified, historic or simply beyond their own personal experiences so it is all guesswork really.

Butā€¦ if the SDK is opened up further, developers will be able to take advantage of that and will do. Incidentally, my own searches with regard to MSFS 2024 seem to show no sign of FFB support from within the sim itself, so it is back to the hardware developers to make the widest selection of options available. As you know, I am now a CLS60 user and plan on that taking me well into the future, all being well.

Kickstarter is a web site on the world wide web. Like Google is.

Iā€™m less concerned about the maturity of tech and more concerned about the maturity of the company. Iā€™ve been looking at the CLS60. Itā€™s a sizeable cost at an estimated 1700 Canadian dollars. It does look impressive (and massive), but itā€™s the length of time the company has been in existence that concerns me. It looks like they are still a very early startup and getting orphaned if they went under is a concern.

Itā€™s not about how long itā€™s been around in total itā€™s about this current iteration and more about the software than the hardware. Flight sim has been void of new hardware for quite some time now and you canā€™t just flick a switch and it all suddenly works using newer tech. As well as all that Asobo have said as much themselves so if you donā€™t want to believe any of it thatā€™s your call.

Thank you for your reply , I visited the site, but no mention of Virpil that I could find. You would think that there would be a little more hype before offering sales. Maybe thatā€™s how that site works.

Itā€™s here.
