Virtual ATC Course | Monday Night Series | Part 1

Hello Hello folks!

This Monday February 27 from 20:00z will see the start of the ATC Course. This is for both PC and Xbox Pilots

We will be using the TTM Community Discord to handle our voice channels and also keep some notes and information.

Once you arrive to the Discord - enter the “Start Here” room and click on the Shamrock. The entire server will then open up. Head on down to “Pilot Ops” and you will see the ATC Course Rooms.

I am NOT in anyway an aviation instructor or professional. I am an enthusiast with a key interest in learning and helping other folks learn too.

This is a massive undertaking - and whilst I know many of our community members already posses the skills when it comes to Online flying - this course is designed to provide EVERYONE with the basic skills, knowledge and confidence to get involved with online flying.

To give you an overview of the course - and this might change a little bit as we progress:

Voice Communication (Radiotelephony)
Charts, ATIS, Flight Plans, Uncontrolled Airports, Airspace
Ground Operations (Startup/Pushback, Taxiing, Take off, Landing, Exiting Runway, Taxiing, Parking)
VFR Procedures (Flight Planning, Circuits, Departures, Flight Following/Basic Service and filing a flight plan)
IFR Procedures (Flight Planning, Clearances, Departure, Enroute, Arrival)
Non Normal and Special Operations
VATSIM and DISCORD Flight

This week we start with Lesson 1

Lesson 1: Getting Started

Overview:
This is all about getting familiar with the hardware and software requirements to get connected to voice channels for Discord and VATSIM.
We look at online networks, connectivity, sim and sound settings, model matching, references, the phonetic alphabet, radio check and charts.

Objective: Create or choose a callsign and call up ATC for the very first time and request a “Radio Check”.

The aircraft type for these lessons are suited to the General Aviation category.
I will be using the default Cessna 172 - both steam gauge and G1000 variants.

The ATC channels will be controlled ONLY on Monday night - I will act as the controller. As the course progresses - I would be delighted to get some assistance from folks who might like to control these channels so please reach out and let me know.

The Discord ATC channels will eventually handle ALL XBOX ATC operations as the PC pilots will progress on to VATSIM. But for now - we will all use Discord to get our bearings, establish a basic understanding and set a pace that we can all work with.

So to recap - This coming Monday will see the start of this series. This is not a group flight (unless of course we find some time and ramble around the airport)

This is all about learning together. Bring a pen and notebook and if you have any questions you can pop them into the atc-text channel
