Virtual Cursor is Now Invisible on Xbox

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue: The 1.2.7.0 update made MSFS 2024 practically unplayable on Xbox, as the virtual cursor in Cursor Mode now does NOT appear in any situation. If you enter Cursor Mode, there is no cursor anymore, you can only see the flashing clickspots when the invisible cursor locks onto them.

This makes the simulator essentially unplayable on Xbox and Cloud with players who do not have a mouse.

I don’t have this issue. Could it be that the “white dot” switch is selected “Off” in Options/Flight Interface?

It is selected OFF but it’s not related. Restarting the simulator for a second time seemingly solved the issue, the cursor is there but it’s still INOP during walkaround. (It at least works in the cockpit.) I don’t yet know whether this was a one-off bug or something that will now randomly occur.

Tested it on Xbox Series X. I could not reproduce. Using the controller interface I was able to call up the white circle with a dot in it and use it as expected.

I do have a mouse plugged in to my Xbox. I don’t know if that makes a difference but felt like I should report that.

All I can do is keep playing and see if the issue pops up again. I hope not. Glad I captured it on video.

I think that is working as intended. I don’t use the interaction cursor for walk arounds. I just place the little white dot (i.e. the center of the screen) on the object I want to inspect. If it can be interacted with I can just hit (A), do the interaction, and hit (B) to exit the interaction. I’ve never needed to use the interaction cursor.

It doesn’t work as intended, primarily for three reasons:

  • The virtual cursor acts like a mouse pointer would in all situations. And with a mouse pointer you can click on interactive items during a walkaround. This should be doable with the virtual cursor as well.

  • You have the option to remove the center dot from the screen. If that also worked as intended, you wouldn’t be able to lock on and click on anything with the center of the screen. The only option would be the virtual cursor, which, in turn, should be able to click on items.

  • The virtual cursor does highlight interactive elements. Just drag it onto any chocks and covers and the clickspot will be blinking, along with the tooltip “A to remove”. So it definitely should, yet it doesn’t do that.

The virtual cursor should operate every clickable element both inside and outside the cockpit. It’s clear that the newly implemented walkaround feature simply doesn’t accomodate the cursor as it was probably never tested with it.

You make some valid points that the virtual cursor should work as a cursor in all situations.

The white dot center cursor is just a visual aid. If you don’t enable the virtual cursor, whatever you put in the center of your view during a walkaround starts flashing blue. The center dot is just a visual aid to find the spot quicker. You don’t need it visible.

The way it should work (and as it does in 2020) is that if you disable the center dot then there’s no lock-on at the center of the screen either. You can look around freely without clickspots flashing or the camera stuck on clickable objects. There’s no point being able to click but not seeing the dot. But this discussion is for a different bug report.

I have this same issue. Fresh install of Flight Sim on my Series X XBox. Nothing connected to my console except my Elite Series 2 controller. Trying to go through the tutorial and i get to the part that tells you how to use the Virtual Cursor, so I press the buttons to activate the cursor and nothing shows up. I’ve tried on four separate occasions, even rebooted my XBox and fully shutdown the game, still no cursor. No settings have been changed from their initial defaults.

I can not even enter safe mode or continue as there is no cursor for even the menu options before the main dashboard loads. This is getting sad

Yes i start alot of flights and the cursor is invisible, the little menu bar pops at top of screen and buttons get highlighted by the invisible cursor. Hard restart usually fixes but from how long it take to load back up and get back to mission usually puts me off and I’ll play something else.

I noticed this issue too. In msfs 2020 you could look around in the cockpit without locking in buttons etc.. in msfs 2024 there seems to an invisible Cursor while looking around and can lock also on Buttons etc…

PLZ Asobo look into it

I get the feeling that the intended behavior if the user wanted to look around without snagging buttons was with the “Legacy” option in “Interface”. The problem is that, yes, it can be selected. But the moment the user leaves the preferences screen, the mode returns to “Lock”. If they would allow “Legacy” on the XBOX, I’d be thrilled.
