Virtual Ground School From a Former Flying School Teacher

Hi everyone,

For all the new Xbox pilots just joining the MSFS community or for anyone who doesn’t know me already, I’m a Twitch streamer, licensed private and glider pilot, and former ground school instructor at a real flying school. Starting this week, the first hour of my Thursday streams will be dedicated to teaching ground school lessons to the MSFS community. We’ll be covering the classroom theory that all student pilots learn before they start flying for real. Over the next several weeks, we’ll cover the following topics:

  • Theory of Flight
  • Aircraft Engines
  • Navigation
  • Radio Procedures
  • Meteorology
  • Air Regulations

If you’re new to flight sims and want to learn the basics or if you’re a self-taught experienced simmer who knows how to fly but not why planes fly, this is the place for you! The first ground school class is this Thursday, July 29, starting at 8pm ET / 5pm PT / 0000Z at https://twitch.tv/SeedyL. Following the lesson, we’ll do two hours of multiplayer group flights together, taking destination requests from viewers in chat. I hope to see some of you there!

Important note: this will be an abridged version of the real PPL ground school curriculum. I’ll be skipping certain topics that are important for real pilots to learn but aren’t really relevant to simulated flying. These courses are for entertainment and flight simming only and are not a replacement for ground school courses if you’re a real student pilot.

Our first lesson is tonight! We’ll be starting with the absolute basics that new pilots learn: the parts of an airplane, the axes of movement, and the four forces of flight. We’ll see you in the (virtual) classroom at 8pm ET / 5pm PT / 0000Z at https://twitch.tv/SeedyL.

Part two of my virtual ground school course is tonight (Thursday, August 5) at 8pm ET / 5pm PT / 0000Z on my Twitch channel at https://twitch.tv/SeedyL. In this week’s class, I’ll be teaching basic aerodynamics, explaining how lift is generated, and talking about stalls. Following the lesson, feel free to stick around for a few hours of multiplayer group flights with destinations suggested by the community in chat.

been enjoying these lessons, thanks SeedyL. Really like the simplicity of the structure and its really easy for those new to sim flying to follow and learn. Looking forward to more of these.
