Visual Degradation of POI - Early 2025 compared to now (Askøy Bridge at night)

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:

Disclaimer: This is just about one POI but it might affect others as well !!

During my recent flights to Bergen (ENBR), I’ve noticed a lack of beauty. I filmed a relaxing video on the riverbank near the Askøy Bridge at the end of February…

This is a screenshot of the video made in Feb 2025

and lately, it just looks boring. I’ve been trying to figure out why for a while now. And now I’ve got it:
When it became possible to download the MSFS2024 packages, I made backups of all the official packages, and then I had the idea to try the older version of the three Nordic packages (from late May/early June…) and lo and behold: the colors, the beauty, are there. In the latest version of the Nordic WU packages, everything is just dark… i miss the colors of the pillars, the way the light is reflected in the water, giving the water a bluish looking

Both of the following screenshots were made on Dec, 6th 2025 within minutes, both on MSFS2024 Version 1.6.31.0

microsoft-nordics2-point-of-interest - Version 2.0.9 (thats the current version)

microsoft-nordics2-point-of-interest - Version 2.0.3 (thats the older version)

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Load package: microsoft-nordics2-point-of-interest - Version 2.0.3 and look at the bridge at night

  2. Load package: microsoft-nordics2-point-of-interest - Version 2.0.9 and look at the bridge at night

  3. Compare both impressions, compare the lights.

that earlier screenshot shows something that has been fixed in SU4 which is this overly bright light emanating from certain POI’s that was just blinding. An example was Notre Dame in Paris. What you are describing as a bug is actually a fix. Yeah the really bright lighting certainly caught your eye but for the most part it was far from realism. You should ask some developer to do a custom version of that bridge.

But removing all POI Lighting is vandalism, the pink redish lights of the pillar is also missing, destroyed… im with you that the “white” lights which were visible from mars were too mich, but now too much was removed, its like vandalism… intentionally removing iconic lighting is
property damage, often its just the lights which make something special, making it something to visit… a POI and removing all of them is just quick and dirty made.

I still see that pink/purple color on the pillars in the new version but lowering the overall glow means that those colors are less bright as well. Asobo does not have the resources to take on the thousands of POI’s so they applied some global change. That’s why I say ask some developer on flightsim.to build you a custom one.

And “vandalism”? That’s over the top. Let’s keep things civil.

im happy that i saved all packages in May so i use just the the old packages which were not destroyed… but to me its a bug, something which has to be re-done by the devs and not something i ask for at flightsim.to.

But it’s not a bug for everyone else. If you want unrealistic lighting around this bridge open SDK and do whatever you want. Don’t expect devs to break the game just for you.

This is how the bridge (POI part of WU15) looks like in FS2020:

And this is how it looks like in FS2024 (SU4) as reported by OP:

The issue I am seeing is that pillars illumination is missing, FS2024 should be the same than FS2020.

You’re skipping a listed step though and that is that early in 2024, that bridge, like many other POI’s around, had this spotlight intense lighting that you could see from space. That buggy lighting lit up the pillars at that stage. When Asobo fixed ALL of the affected POI’s, that bridge reverted to standard lighting which did not have customized lights for the pillars. What it looked like in 2020 is basically irrelevant in my opinion. I’m not disputing that it would be nice for an update for this one object but I would not imagine it would be high on the list of things to do. That’s why I’m recommending he get someone to work on it outside the sim.

Since FS2020 did not suffer of the same initial lightning issue that happened in FS2024 I would assume that the pillars color in FS2020 is how devs originally decided to render this POI. If it is the case then FS2024 should rendered the same. If pillars color is not correct in FS2020 then I agree actual FS2024 version is correct.

Additional comments:
Reviewing real photos at night for this bridge it really looks different from how it is rendered into the sim (more lights everywhere) so yes it would be nice to have it enhanced.
