Visual degradation on Xbox

No hardware issue as such. SU15 ruined the game graphically. It was very good before that and between then and now I have the same add-ons - just 3rd party fighter jets, that’s it.

Correct… London and UK can look SO good but some US cities don’t such as NYC. Paris is terrible too but fly anywhere in Italy, Barcelona, Germany or Portugal, it is pristine. :pinched_fingers:

I hope the world looks consistent again, PG areas and otherwise.

SU15 has caused way too many issues even though we had an excellent beta experience:

Bad LOD on PG
Blurry ground textures
Bad LOD on the ground in general and not very impressive draw distances
Game taking forever to load after launching it from thr main dashboard

NONE of these graphical and load time related issues were there before SU15

SU16 couldn’t come soon enough :smiling_face_with_tear:

if it fix this, and do not more bad

Ya I’m convinced something has changed since SU15. I’ve just been flying around Africa (southern portion heading west along the coast ) doesn’t matter where I fly actually, with the default F-18 (Bing still turned off standard content only) generic really, and I get glitches in the scenery as I’m flying. I can see on the sides (as I’m flying) the scenery has a slight stutter to it. Suffice to say I’ve even reduced the resolution to 1080p. Even in its generic form and everything turned off it’s degraded. But as was said in an earlier post, it was working fine before SU15.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and repeat what a poster said somewhere in the forum that 2020 is one big Beta test, a learning platform for developers to create whats coming with 2024 and to generate income at the same time to develop it. Makes sense from a business stand point if you think about it. In a sense we’ve all been Beta testers. I’m only repeating what I read here no personal sentiment.

Hopefully, once the 24 SDK is made public the more talkative dev’s will give us some insight of the potential performance & feature improvements. I believe WASM multithreading is high on the wanted list.

I hope SU16 can give us back the visual quality although I’m not convinced they will back track on doing that at the expense of reintroducing ABO’s.

Here’s a frightening thought - what if the dynamic LOD / draw distances was taken from 2024 code base…

Completely agree, draw distance on Series X is now terrible. Especially if you have paid for upgraded airports like Edinburgh, which were very high quality, and now it’s grey boxes, blurry runway/ taxiway, vehicles and things like taxi signs just appear when you are 10 ft away!!!

Draw distance is an issue with the series “S” console but I have observed (maybe its just me or fluke), that MSFS runs better on the “S” console right now than the “X” console. In all seriousness, I’ve had more graphical issues with the “X” console than the “S” overall in spite of some hiccups. Call me crazy but that’s what I’ve observed.

UPDATE: Just flew around Ireland in F-18, standard content, Bing turned on, everything else turned off, smooth, glitch free flying, “S” console carbon black. As I said above the “X” console has issues internally, it struggles with MSFS and it’s the more powerful machine…I don’t get it…

What makes you think 2024 won’t just be one big beta test for 2028? Then 2028 for 2032? It’s ALL just one long term investment and return strategy for the big players you know?

Reviews I’ve seen tend to favour the S for overall smoothness running at a native 1080P and with the acceptable constraints on detail and LOD, the S delivers a good all round experience.

The X on the other hand runs natively at 1440P and has/had… higher details and LOD so it spends more effort handling the streamed data, plus a lot of users opt for 4K output which is delivered by “temporal reconstruction of the 1440P native rendering using data from previous frames” which right now in combination with PG, detailed airports, huge amounts of scenery objects (Inibuilds EGLL as an example has 10,000 static cars outside the airport…) and aircraft with high detail levels and deep/complex systems & avionics is just too much at times with the existing MSFS codebase.

If that’s true about that particular airport having 10,000 cars that’s just ridiculous and needs to be stopped by these addon developers or allow Xbox users, because you can do it on pc, to be able to deselect airport clutter and not have the most waste of time features like full airport interiors.
If things don’t change in this regard there will always be memory problems / issues.
Or you could just boycott marketplace until they start catering for Xbox users with lite versions of airports.

Remember what I said. No personal sentiment, only repeating what I read here, what someone else posted.

I must say that my Xbox x is not having such severe degradation.

I noticed that LOD was reduced, detail doesn’t show until a bit closer now.

But otherwise everything looks better than ever with almost no frame rate reduction…it happens rarely.

Barcelona is beautiful, Paris is excellent even with the low river…London too..can’t remember which has the drought, NYC is stunning, Tokyo indeed excellent

I am getting tired of generic non-pg places myself.

I had trouble until I shut off IPv6, now nothing ever goes wrong with the sim.

I think the current sim can realistically be considered a beta — it’s Asobo’s first dip into the world of MSFS, so the initial outing is always going to provide the most valuable lessons going forward. They’re aware of how demanding the simming community is now, and what is most desires, and can respond accordingly with FS2024.

Any software series can be considered a perpetual beta, though.

Opt for 4k output? There’s no resolution toggle on the Series X or S console.

Paris is excellent? Are we playing the same sim on Series X? It’s terrible - it’s what I called the “old” London.

What aircraft are you flying over it? Do you have live weather and live AI traffic enabled?

Sure there is. You can either have 4k, 1440p, 1080i or 720p in the Display an TV settings drop down menu…

I fly the little icon. Live weather, air traffic ai generated, no cars.

I saw the pics some posted of Barcelona, very degraded. Mine does not look like that at all.

The only time I get the buildings going post apocalypse or melting into clay is if my connection gets bad, but mostly PG scenery is excellent, as good as any vids I’ve seen

Something to try that may or may not help - its just a theory : If you take a lot of pictures, empty out as much of those from the XBox storage network as you can. I find that not only can taking pics interfere with your bandwidth (which they may have recently fixed or made better) but it also seems that pretty much everything improved for me once I deleted a whole bunch of unneeded pics.

just an idea.

Also - do you guys check Network Status before each time you start the sim? I think its a good idea to check for anything unusual and also run a speed test periodically.

Oh… Well, I just leave it at 4k. Why would you want to use anything else ?

Interesting…

I do have quite a bit of flight simulator pics and vids saved on the internal storage.

Okay, I will try flying a really slow aircraft and see if it has any impact on quality.
