Vive Console beta 2.1.21.0 introduces fps lock for Vive Pro 2, Cosmos users

If you’re a Vive Console users (i.e. Vive Pro 2 user or Cosmos), the new beta version of Vive Console has just introduced the ability to control fps lock. This is a huge relief for me as I can finally lock my fps at 30 or 40fps and completely get rid of the stuttering that was always introduced by the Vive Console deciding to shift between the different fractions of total fps as a function of performance. This was both bad in MSFS, usually when turning my head fast, and combat flight sims like IL2 Great Battles where performance is good but can shift between 60/120fps and induce stutters at key moments during a dogfight or strafing run.

Previously HTC devs had ruled out implementing a control of the fps lock, which was a major bummer. But thanks to recent bugs that interfered with the VR beta of another combat flight sim, HTC finally had to implement some explicit control on fps lock and here we are. This was the last aspect which was making me regret my Vive Pro 2 purchase - I’m now really happy with it and could see myself using it for a few years!

this is really good to know thank you. I will have to find this. i have a vive pro 2 and a cosmos elite. The stuttering in this sim has plagued my experience for years now

I’ve had the chance to test it in MSFS and IL2 a little bit and it’s really solved my issues.
With MSFS, if I fly GA where I can expect good performance, I’ll go with 120hz and lock at 1/3 of the fps and it’s so smooth now, I never have stutters anymore. I did a test flight with the headwind a330 which used to give a lot of stutters and with 90hz mode combined with 1/3 of fps I was perfectly smooth too, it’s brilliant.
You should certainly try it. Make sure to opt for the beta to get access to that setting.
