Zendesk says the Vive Cosmos only needs SteamVR, so I’ve not had to play with the registary like the Oculus user. However, I have enabled SteamVR betas - which made no difference. I’ve also had to turn off HDR as I was getting an orange screen.
Seeing a few different topics about the other Vives, but nothing about anyone getting a grid like I am.
Any suggestions for workarounds/fixes?

I get a grid like that on my HTC Vive - I can see it on the screen and through the headset(when in VR Mode). But I also have additional problem- the entire panel shifts to the left and down - so when looking forward I actually see most of the screen black.
I got it working.
Steam VR - Settings - Betas - ‘beta - Steam Beta Update’
Steam VR - Settings - General - Use Desktop Game Theatre while Steam VR is active - Unchecked.
Vive console - Settings - Advanced - Join Beta program - Checked
Windows Display Settings - HDR - Off
Loaded MSFS
Set VR toggle & VR View reset keys (if not already done)
Turned on headset
Create and start a flight. Click Ready to fly when loaded.
Once in cockpit press button configered to toggle VR mode.
View in headset was originally SteamVR room, then after a couple of seconds flickered to a loading screen and then into MSFS. I was originally placed about 40ft in the air, but pressing the VR view reset button put me in the cockpit.
