ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:

Vjoy device disappeared with SU5 Beta. Till last night the previously done vjoy assignments worked even when device is no more visible on controllers. But this stopped working today. The assignments no longer work.

Also, two Tobii devices are now on list. I don’t own a single Tobii.

Are you using Vjoy for rudder pedals or something else?

Vjoy is 2ndary control bind for cameras. Then in spad.next I can set vjoy buttons to activate those camera controls with a streamdeck. It is the easiest way when you use the streamdecks for other things (aircraft controls and functions).

The same thing is happening to me. Vjoy disappeared and two new devices appeared, Tobii_1 and Tobii_2. The associations that were on Vjoy are now on Tobii_1. Tobii_2 has no associations.

I really believe this bug is tied to the behavior of this bug before it:

They need to figure out how/why Tobii is being “coupled” to vJoy and get them separated and treated as independent entities.

What is working against us, is vJoy being an outdated (and by outdated I mean when was it last updated?) tech that isn’t technically supported by the sim. Unfortunately, for many of us there isn’t a viable alternative for what we are using it for.

Actually this has nothing to do with vJoy. vJoy worked perfectly with SU4. It’s just representation of a joystick, like any other generic USB controller or generic button-box. What’s troubling here is that the controller assignments UI is so bad, that it cannot even make a difference between one device and another, and this Tobii business is clearly interfering with this. vJoy should just be treated as any other controller, and it’s used by many flight simmers. Braking this for the final release is an absolute no no.

It, unfortunately, does. Only because of this statement:

My point was due to this — sure there isn’t anything, necessarily, wrong with vJoy, but because MS/Asobo see it as “not an officially supported project” they may not put any effort into figuring out what is going on here. Worse, they may lay the blame on it as the issue.

If they do so - not do anything and blame everything on vJoy - then presently: the config UI interactions when Tobiis are installed will be screwed. So in order for Tobii to work as intended, this conflict needs to be resolved.

most likely it’s due to the fact that Tobii presents itself as a virtual controller. As you need to have it “exist” somewhere in the MSFS universe for it to be usable in the first place. And now it occupies the same space as a controller without a physical HID, buttons etc. Therefore they conflict.

So: It’s not the Tobii or vJoy itself that are “not working” or “unsupported because one is very old”, it’s the way these types of devices are configured/presented to the sim, via the controller interface. That is what’s broken.

You can introduce ANY standard USB HID device into MSFS (with physical buttons), and it will find it and function and you can configure anything for it. Nothing special is required from MSFS side to support it. vJoy is not a physical device, nor is Tobii a “game controller” in the traditional sense. They must figure out this non-physical layer in a way that it does not create this conflict.

Having the same issue here starting with 1.7.10.0. Vjoy device is missing but have 2 Tobii device entries each of which matches what should be my Vjoy assignments. And I’ve never used a Tobii device.

Thank you for the bug report.

We have created an internal ticket to see if our team already has this logged, and if not they will attempt to reproduce the issue and create a new bug report. This item is now marked as feedback-logged. If there is an existing bug report or one is created, we will move this thread to bug-logged.

Wow, this ticket must have gotten top priority… not:

I just launched the game after the official introduction of SU5, and YES the vJoy device is gone. Bummer! I am using it for a lot of controls, since the early bugs with latching switches in FS20. Please give it back to me!

So vjoy disappeared and now showing as a second tobii eye tracker which I do not have. I only have one and one vjoy axis to use the trim wheel of the honeycomb bravo. Can you please escalate this bug to the devs please?

Similar problems here.

Two Tobii entries are shown in Controls and the VJoy has disappeared.

The highest Tobii entry “Tobii_1” contains what appears to be a blank Vjoy and any Vjoy buttons entered work as they should via Spad.next.

(I use Vjoy for camera views mostly) but just to confuse things the Hardware Tab on Tobii_1 does control my Toby Eye tracker 5.

The Tobii_2 entry does not control anything.

Note for the devs: Also see related issue here:
How to delete "Ghost" Control devices in MSFS2024?

Same problem, I have vjoy in my device lists, but when I click on hardware setting to move the sensibility, I get a Tobii setting menu instead of the graph to change the curve. My Tobii eye tracker have it’s own device called Tobii_1. Please fix it. Had this problem since the SU5 beta

vJoy controller disappeared from controller list after SU5 installed; Tobii appeared despite the fact that I do not have and never have had a Tobii device.

Major impact for me–now I cannot use several controllers that used software to normalize axes.

This has still not been moved to Bug Logged Status??

This is a big problem – with all the issues on how Windows wants to handle Key presses and combinations this has been one of the most efficient ways (since 2020 launched as well) to drive control bindings.

With how Keyboard Loggers are treated/detected. Combinations being sent to the System not to the Game – and MS own admission that APIs for doing Keyboard Commands and Injections would be removed long term for security reasons – vJoy offered a better method for developers to control events consistently.

Really sad that this was reported on Feb 17 and we are now May 8th and it is broken.

If this was a Thrustmaster / WinCTRL / Turtle Beach device that you did not address things would be on fire. Best not to ignore these kinds of reports and release product anyway.

Ok I have found that each time I start FS2024 SU5 that I need to immediately go to Controls and then reselect my general setting profiles for both Vjoy and also for Tobii. Then everything works as it should.

On startup the Sim selects its inbuilt General Profile Tobii (which is effectively blank) for each.

It does not retain the last profile used as expected so the user has to reselect the required saved profiles each time.

It is a minor hassle which adds a couple of minutes before you can fly

What if you can’t see a vJoy profile at all, and only have a Tobii_1 and has a bunch of X’s, and a Tobii_2, which has your Tobii profile?

I use Spad.Next, so don’t really have a general profile.

Sounds like you have the same problem as I have. This is what I have done.

I renamed “Tobii 1” to “VJoy” and “Tobii 2” to “Tobii”.

The General Profile shows the same 3 things no matter which of those Controls are selected.

I then selected Vjoy (used to be Tobii_1) and made a new Gen Profile calling it My Vjoy with my Vjoy settings.

I then selected Tobii (renamed from Tobii 2) and made a new Gen Profile called My Tobii and set up the Tobii using that. Using Hardware settings on the Tobii Control.

The same Gen Profiles show up no matter which control is selected but selecting the one which matches the control I want works.

I have to Match the Controls and reselect their Gen Profiles each time I start the Sim. I do Tobii first.

Everything then works as expected. I also use Spad but this is all done in the Sim. Spad doesn’t touch Tobii but I use Spad via VJoy to control switching it on and off and resetting the view.

Hope that is not to confusing. Hopefully MS will fix it all for us soon.
