VL3 - Rotax 915 mod

Oh thx very much that’s cool !

One last thing: Do you confirm G3X light has not dimming light switch ?

This is a really good mod. Unfortunately, since last update none of the lights are working and the G3X has the black screens instead of the synthetic vision.

Interesting. I am using it with the G3X mod and light mod and everything is working.

Just in case you can download the original VL3 light mod and extract that to community folder

Maybe clear out your G3X package and make sure you have the dev3 version?

I wanted to vote but the thread is being locked.
I don’t undestand why they made the premium and the the deluxe planes not moddable…

Yeah, they merged that thread with another somewhere… I don’t know what it is called. Super annoying right! The modders have done amazing work on the airplanes they have access to.

I’ve got the G3X and lights working now thanks.
I’m finding his little aircraft quite heavy on frames compared to other light aircraft in the hangar.

Hmmm… I’ve got an older CPU (4790K) but I’ve got a GTX 1080 Ti all running at 1080P and I don’t notice any issues. It could be the SVT synthetic vision perhaps on the mod? You can turn that off but I doubt that’s a real factor.

I wish I could be of more help.

Hey, me too; 4790K O/C’d to 4.6, EVGA 1080Ti OC and 16 Gb of RAM. 2 x SSD.
I think it might have been me being greedy with AI traffic. I’m testing again today.

I do find the VL-3 quite squirrelly - but again, I think that’s me with the latest update upsetting my TM HOTAS X.
Great job on the mod. Thanks.

Hello all! Love this mod i appreciate your work! One gripe though, anyway for me to disable the audible alerts? (500 hundred) (pull up)

Hi,
You should try to install the latest “Working Title GX 0.1 dev3” that fixes the synthetic vision with last MSFS update. Hope it helps.

Hi all,
This plane is so light and powerful it is a real pleasure to visit the alps with it.
Thank you so much for the mod!
Personally I find it easy to land on even the smallest airstrips like ND de la salette.
But my take-offs are awful (they are far from perfect with the stock VL3 but still a lot better).
First, even with various sensitivity settings I cannot control the yaw properly: after a few seconds the yaw reacts so abruptly to the pedals (saitek) I invariably go from one side of the runway to the others .
Then, it goes so fast from 0 to 65 knots there is no time for an acceleration phase and I always overshoot Vfe or even Vle before having the time to change flaps and gear (they are mapped to the joystick but it goes so fast).
Then if I try to maintain a best Vx climb at 65knots it requires a 25° pitch.
This does not look like the take-offs I have seen on videos. One of those went like this:

  • t0 max throttle
  • 5s front wheel up
  • 10s main gear up slightly release stick for to accelerate
  • 15s retract gear and pitch ~10°
  • 20s retract flaps and maintain 65kts

What do you guys experience at takeoff?
Do you have advices to manage them?
Thanks,

Arnaud

Are you applying the correct Manifold Pressure and Prop settings for take-off? If I remember correctly it’s around 44HG at 5800rpm for this modified 915 version, and 27HG at 5800rpm for the default VL-3.

No need to slam the throttle to the firewall during take-off, that would make for a wild ride

Thanks a lot, that helped for sure!
Now yaw problems are solved. Pitch is still very sensitive as described on some videos… So I need to practice more takeoffs.
But I already feel the plane now needs a short acceleration phase above the runway before aiming at a best climb rate attitude which is always surprisingly high (around 20°).
Really surprising plane but very appealing.
Congrats!

Yeah it’s close but hard to tell exactly how the takeoff should be. Depends on a lot of things. Weight for one, atmospheric conditions (density altitude etc). For me I just apply takeoff power (44.8" MP) with a notch of flaps. Rotate smoothly and once I’ve got positive upwards rate, bring gear and flaps up.

Check the little placard next to the fuel tank selector for airspeed settings.

I do a cruise climb at 140 KIAS with 80% power setting.

No probs! Happy to help  It’s certainly taken me a lot of practice to get to grips with it.

I tend to scoot around in it between 2000-2500 feet, and find that the 70% power setting (34MP at 5000rpm) is perfect for maintaining cruise speed. It’s a fun aircraft, and has been my favourite from the start!

I’m still getting lousy frames with the VL-3 using the kaosfere G3X mod - it doesn’t appear to take note of the screen refresh settings in the sim options.
Anyone else?

i had the problem once, when move map much, and that’s do ram leak

Can’t say I’m having any framerate issues. Very odd. Though I wonder if it’s related to the issue I had with the G3X (and G1000/G3000 mods) and the AP not working correctly, which I did manage to fix.

In the end, I found that the G3X/G1000/G3000 mods need to load into the sim BEFORE any add-on aircraft load in. Mods in the Community folder load in alphabetically. So in other words, you need to go into your Community folder, and rename your add-on aircraft folders and place a “z” at the beginning of each of them, so that they load in last.

For instance, my VL-3 Rotax 915 folder is named “z-community-vl3rotax915”

Would be interesting to see if this solves your issue, as it did fix mine.

What is the difference between the Orange Racing and the Factory Prototype liveries?

Also, does anyone know how i could paint the prop tips red in the Black Hawke livery?
