Voice attack/Aviator

I have recently upgraded to a dedicated MSFS computer. I fly exclusively in VR with a Quest 2 via Virtual Desktop. Since the upgrade I no longer hear the responses from the co-pilot ( Aviator Elise). I can hear engine cockpit and ATC sounds. I have played with Windows 11 sound settings and Voice Attack settings to no result. The old machine with Windows 10 and all the same software versions still works. I have searched Voice Attack and HCS support, I will be grateful if anyone can help.
TIA

Have you selected the HCS profile in Voice Attack? Does Voice Attack prompt that MSFS has been recognised? Does Voice Attack hear your commands?

Thanks for the reply. Yes voice attack works perfectly in implementing commands, it’s just the response that is missing. All other sounds are sent to the Queest 2.

In case you aren’t aware, Windows has both a default sound output device and a default communications device.

The latter is probably what voiceattack uses to “talk” to you, so maybe check that your default comms device is set appropriately.

Thanks for the reply. I have played with the windows 11 settings but it seems to have a mind of it’s own in changing settings. MSFS also seems to refuse some sound settings, if Oculus virtual device. Is set in both sound fields if a flight is started it resets to default but sound and ATC is sent to Quest and Quest microphone works but still no VA responses.
Could it be the text to speech engine or is that the same for ATC?

ah, i have an original Rift CV1 and always steer clear of the Oculus virtual device, as I had issues with it when they first introduced it.

Don’t you have specific options for the speakers and mic on the headset? If so, maybe give those a try.

I’ve had the same issue and i believe i have the solution to your problems.

When MSFS gets updated…you have to edit ALL the voice commands in your voice attack plugin/profile and change the target in them to the new MSFS version. You know what i mean? If you edit a single command you will notice it has a target towards which application it should be directed to. For example “Flight simulator ver 127.13.05”. But when your MSFS gets updated it no longer is that version so you have to edit the command to suit the latest version. There are options to target the commands at “active window” etc, but for me personally that didn’t work. So what i did was i manually selected all the commands and edited them and changed the version and then it started working. It’s a bit wierdly done in the voice attack (for example…you have to hold down the shift button, select all the commands and not release the shift button until you click edit) but i managed to solve it. Try it. Also, i’m not sure but maybe you have to have your MSFS running for voice attack to register the new version of msfs otherwise it won’t show in the list of options when selecting version). Sorry, i wrote this all a bit complicated. If you don’t manage to solve it, let me know i’ll post you screenshots here of step by step instructions.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply. I’m afraid I don’t understand how to do this. I may be being stupid but if If I try to edit a command in the Aviator profile it says I cannot due to the auto updating feature. If you can spare the time a detailed process would be very useful. Thanks for your help.

Here, i recorded my desktop to show you. Just remember 3 things.

  1. YOu will notice how i “played with brackets” in the edit screen. I did this to show you that they need to be expanded so you can select individual commands. So first you need to go all the way down slowly and expand every “bracket”. For each plane for example. So that all commands for that plane are listed.
2)When you have them all expanded you left click on the very first command entry on top of the list then you go all the way down and then you press shift and left click on the very last command entry but DON’T let go of the shift so that they all remain selected (blue colored). Then while still holding shift you click on edit and then you can let go of shift.
  2. Notice how the only MSFS version i could select was 127.13.0. But in fact the version i have installed right now is 127.14.0. I think you have to actually have msfs running before you do any of this so that it recognizes the latest version. Then you will see both versions on that list. The one that you had in the settings until now…and the one that you actually have installed.

Let me know if this fixed it for you

Thanks very much for this. I will give it a try tomorrow and let you know the result. Grateful for your help.

Hi, I tried this last night but unfortunately it did not resolve the problem. I have contacted the developer of the HCS Aviator profile, he has suggested it may be a Windows 11 issue with mono sound files. I have Googled that but come up with nothing. at present I am out of ideas but will keep looking.
Thanks very much for your help.

So very sorry to hear that, i was almost certain the problem would be resolved with my suggestion. Unfortunately i don’t have any other ideas. Best of luck to you, mate.

Thanks anyway. I’ll report if I find a solution.

well you know…you could always use the free profile i use. It’s more than capable. It’s also free.

Links to download the profile and install instructions in the video description.

Thanks, I’ll have a look at that.
