Volocity: the slowest most boring aircraft in the sim

the Volocity may be slow but it’s a fun a little thing to fly around cities. As long as you dont take it too serious its quite entertaining…

The only fun allowed is an airliner flight that is flown by the autopilot from 400ft after takeoff to 400 feet before landing. LOL.

If you fly short hops with maybe 15 min at cruise altitude it actually keeps you busy all the time. Charts, procedures, ATC, performance management. Without AP it would be impossible to fly single pilot.

I don’t appreciate being called out like this

Not sure where to post this but is this info field bugged for the Volocity aircraft type? There’s a weird variable tag showing in the aircraft selection for me

I’ve no idea what you were expecting it to be? It is basically a very big electric drone thats big and powerful enough to carry passengers. Nothing more. The aircraft in real life is really just a proof of concept. Its a highly experimental bit of kit.

If you just want to slowly take in city sceneries and chill out and take in the view I think its perfect. There’s umpteen other aircraft in the sim if a thrilling experience is what you’re after.

I get it but come on. You have to admit it’s really really really slow in every direction.

This little guy is perfect for city hops, really fun in NY or Tokyo… find your favourite building and land on it!

I don’t understand how it’s possible to model a bunch of small roters but not helicopter roters? I’m sure there’s a reason but to me it’s not readily apparent.

Yep, you won’t be winning races in Reno with it

I didn’t know it was meant to be fast.

Until you land it… where it bounces like it’s an 8 Ounce Drone.
Kinda weird.

Jim-Sim

Probably has the same flight model as the drone camera

It‘s not meant to be fun. It‘s meant to be safe. As safe as an aircraft without any pilot can be… cough

It’s more of a commercial for VoloCity than a practical, fun aircraft. No wonder they didn’t charge for it, I don’t think anyone would have bought it. At least it flies…more than can be said about the Orbis.

It’s the perfect “sightseeing” aircraft for me.

What do you need a GPS for? You can’t go far enough to get lost :joy:

I flew from my local airport to my house and landed in my backyard which is about 10 miles from the airport. Going back to the airport I ran out of battery and didn’t make it back.

But It’s okay to toy around with it. They seriously need to talk to Elon Musk to get some decent batteries

Yes it is IRL. In the sim though it is a proof of concept. Asobo said so in no uncertain terms, calling it the first default aircraft capable of spot landings. The precursor to helicopters in 2022.

The real one is not meant for aerobatics either, if it feels slow and lame, then Asobo did a good job.

What do you think why the drone camera is called “drone camera”, seriously what did you expect? It’s a drone, meant to provide safe and ultimately autonomous transportation. It’s inherently stable and the aerodynamics is very different from anything that gets people in the air so far. It’s meant to be a “boring” experience.

Welcome to the future BTW. There are big efforts on developing the existing boring airborne transportation robots (aka “airliners”) into something were pilots are even more bored to death by even more just monitoring the robot’s action, and ultimately into robots that don’t need any pilots aboard anymore.

Yeah, a racing drone. Or, you could just stick some wings to it, mount all the propellers in front of it or maybe turn them into one big propeller and replace each of the little electric motors with the cylinder of a combustion engine, maybe arrange them in a circle so they fit better… or you could just save “someone” all the hassle and buy a Corsair?
