Volocity: the slowest most boring aircraft in the sim

Here’s my personal opinion of this new aircraft. You may have another so please let me know your thoughts.

The Volocity was such a let-down for me. I was rather excited to hop in and have fun. It’s the first new aircraft I tried after the update. But wow, is that thing a dog. It’s so slooooooow to manuever. It’s no fun at all for me. If I want to float around and stare at things I’ll use the drone camera. I’m hoping someone mods this thing so it becomes even a little bit interesting

The real thing seems to have a top speed of around 59 knots.

But all those Motor RPM Gauges, and all the battery status Gauges… How COOL !!! Watch them as you bank & change attitude !!

IF only it had a GPS locked AP (as most consumer drones have these days) !!

Yes, I noticed the low top speed and that certainly contributes to my feelings. For me it’s more about rotation speed and banking left/right. It hardly banks at all. It just feels big and clunky rather than small and maneuverable.

How do you even turn the display on?

I read that it has a bug with the display unless you start on the runway as I did.

Yeah, that makes it fun for about 2 seconds

I’ve just watched a video of the real thing. It doesn’t looks like the rotors themselves tilt, so my guess would be that as you move the controls, say to tilt forwards, the rotors at the front slow down, and those towards the back increase in speed? It’s not a racing machine, but one built for stability, and safety perhaps, so you won’t be doing any crazy manoeuvres in this.

I’ll take fun for about 2 seconds, over frustration for Hours

I’d say it meets those boring qualities very well then!

Ive tried it but for some reason my cockpit view is actually behind the pilots seat which is pretty useless. I can use the arrow keys to move about but usually end up outside the aircraft.

Same here. I had to use the arrows to get into the proper position. I fly in VR by the way.

It might be slow, lame and the (fuel) batteries will not last long, but I liked it to explore around and landing on helipads at the top of some buildings

A button mapping for switching on avionics works for me in this case.

I love it!
This is a great vehicle for exploring and beginners.
Yeah I would like a ‘sport/extreme’ version at some point but it’s fantastic!
Also really want the autopilot controls.
It’s perfect for what it is intended for.
Bravo Volo!

Aside: Using the keyboard for Elevator Pitch, Aileron Roll and Rudder Yaw works nicely.

After setting pitch angle, using the keyboard won’t revert pitch to neutral when adding roll or yaw.

After setting my pitch; if too heavy on the joystick, it breaks pitch and reverts to neutral.

this is called a proof of concept… LOL. It’s basically in there to tippy toe towards helicopters next year.

The Volocity copter is a real vehicle, it’s intended role is for use during the Paris Olympic games.

Oh no .Another bug . That’s unusual.

You should not have fun in a sim…
