VR cockpit panel mipmapping/LOD failures

There is something wrong with the mipmapping or LOD that affects the texture resolution of select cockpit elements. This starting in SU5. There are parts of the cockpit that are rendered with lower resolution. They vacillate between terrible resolution and close to matching the rest of the cockpit. It is dependent on gaze but it is not consistent.

Steadily looking at the labels in the Huey will trigger a downgrade. Moving closer tends to increase the resolution relatively, moving away and drops way back down again. This issue is present upon first load. It does not happen in flatscreen. I have noticed this in:

  • Taogs Hangar Stranger Things Huey (base content)
  • Taogs Hangar Huey
  • Taogs Hangar Dauphin AS365
  • BlackSquare Baron

It’s consistently the same elements that are affected.

This is not a streaming issue because a) the aircraft are downloaded b) the hires textures are downloaded; they are intermittently displayed - they are just not used correctly/consistently. As this started in SU5 and it’s VR only it’s likely related to PS5 PSVR2 optimization?

I have iterated though graphics settings, no improvements. Reset rolling cache. It’s not FFR, I don’t use dynamic settings.

I have also reported this to Taogs Hangar and BlackSquare. I’m sure they’d appreciate some help figuring this out. I linked to the reports below.

The videos and screenshots don’t really do the issue justice, in reality, it’s an eye-sore and distracting. I believe the devs do not have any direct control over VR, so the fact it only happens in VR and started with SU5 suggests this is a core sim issue not a 3rd part dev problem.

Hueys. All labels are at the wrong resolution. This must surely be a clue to the problem.

Dauphin: labeling on the left panel are all at wrong resolution

Baron: inner A/S texture is at lower resolution
