I have a Quest 2 and it has been running fine in VR. I have it running through Oculus and am using version 24. After about ten minutes of flying in VR, the screen will stop and freeze, and black areas will fill half the screen. The only way to fix it is to reset the game and start again. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
*Please note: This is different to the black frame problem which was fixed by turning off stencil in debugger tool.
As I said, I think your GPU is somewhat under-powered. Try reducing the resolution at which you render. In fact, put everything to absolute minimum then increase gradually and test.
The Nvidia Hotfix 460.97 drivers are good, in case you don’t have them installed.
Ok, do you mean change the setting in MSFS? I had that set to about 80 and it seemed ok, but will lower it. Is there anything I need to do with the Quest?
Would you recommend I upgrade the GPU to 2080 TI? If yes, is it all I need to buy to make it work better?
Well some people running 3090 GPUs struggle mightily so I don’t think buying the GPU you suggest will make much difference.
Go to somewhere like EICA, an airport way out in the wilds and load up the Ikon. Fly around there, see if it crashes. If not it’s a graphic over-saturation problem in built up areas or more complex aeroplanes.
If using OpenXR Developers tools, set render scaling to the same as FS settings.
Good luck, report back. I’m sure there’ll be others, immeasurably more expert than I ready to chip in with their tuppen’orth!
Some people swear on older ones. Personally I use these drivers without issues and crashes. You can always revert to earlier ones as some have, but I have found no difference. For me, 460.97 is stable.
It seems to run ok now! I will enjoy playing it and hopefully it wont crash! Thanks for your help. Do you know if the sim remembers where you have flown and saves the data for your next trip, or does it constantly download it?
It doesn’t but you can click on a point on the map and “set as departure” and it will put you there. Or load up the same flight plan and choose the “travel to” (looks like a map pin) option in the menu, and skip to cruise or whatever is closer
