Lately I switched my gpu from 3090 to 4090. First start of msfs vr in pimax crystal, and I had 70Hz. After that this game only was always stuck on 33Hz. I didn´t put any lock on 33.
My setup is kinda unusual; I have top GPU 4090, Pimax crystal, 14600kf, and old 10Eur worth monitor, full HD at 60Hz, not capable of hdr. As I play vr only, I really do not care for better monitor.
If I turn my pimax on, and then start game, and then if I swithch VR on, I can get my game in vr at 70hz. For that I need to turn VR in game before game finish loading.
If I turn VR on after game loads, it will stuck to 33Hz.
Also If game already works on full 70Hz, and I turn off and on VR, game will be again locked to 33Hz.
Is that MSFS fault, or windows problem? Why is VR locked to 33Hz, There is no math that can get me to that number.
PS: smart smoothing is disabled, frame locking is disabled, also that variabile qualitiy to fit some target frames is also disabled. I play via pimax openXR + toolkit.
I do not know how long this issue is on my pc, as with my old gpu 3090 I had about 30Hz. Only now with 4090 I can clearly see that issue.
Have you gone into the Nvidia Control panel lately? That is a place where half locks can be applied. Try resetting NVCP. Also, try and reset as many things as you see fit, the upgrade to 4090 might have fuddled some apps or settings.
Yes, I double-checked, it was off. I also switched several things intentionally on + apply, then again off +apply (half frames, smart smoothing included). It is not wrong settings in pimax play, nor openxr toolkit, as I can get 70 frames every time before game loads fully - I can play like that with 70 frames. Only thing what bothers me is I can not change some settings, and fast switch vr in game off/on.
After switching gpu I used DDU for clean install, and nvidia settings were reset to default.
Somehow I think my old monitor does not fit good with new windows settings (I rememmber before it was tricky to get uncapped frames in windowed game on monitor while I play vr, as my windows didn’t show me that settings, as my monitor was not hdr capable. I solved that elsewhere, but it was tricky).
Wait, today everything works good. I was playing with all settings again, and I figured game works good (70-72Hz).
The only changes are:
I disabled turbo mode (openxr toolkit), but that probably was placebo
frame rate throttling (locking fps) in openxr toolkit does not work good any more, when I lock there to 60-61Hz, then I have 33fps. Very strange. Locking to 70 gives 55, to 75 gives 62…That was my problem. I uncapped it there, and I have again 70.
I can play, and I do not need any more support. This tread can be closed.
Thank you friends for help
Glad you figured out the solution. Here some things to consider: if you want to limit FPS, RivaTuner Statistics Server (RTSS) is recommended. It supports fractional frame rates, e.g. 37.5. Also, “turbo mode” is really misnamed, for what its does is disable the HMD’s throttling of the app’s (MSFS) frame rate that the HMD does to best align the app’s frame rate for spatial reprojection. When enabled it usually causes judder though can boost FPS. I don’t think it being enable was contribution to your problem.
You should set the headset to 120hz in the Pimaxplay client, and set Reflex to On + Boost in the game settings. Restore defaults in the Nvidia control panel as well. You should have a great experience!
I have OpenXR Toolkit uninstalled, so no turbo mode to get in the way.
Game settings > Graphics > Nvidia Reflex.
You have to set it in both PC and VR settings and save. There’s a bug in the gui for that setting because you often set it then find it’s turned off again. Set, save, go out of settings, back in, check again, etc.
Interesting comments to me this - Can i ask respectfully, how can you stand 37fps? It nano-blurs when looking out the side, and when flapping wings, or just adjusting roll?
What am i missing here? I’d love to be able to get on with 36-37fps, but its just horrible. I dont see how any other human being can tolerate it.
I agree that 37.5 fps would be rather dreadful, that value was only an example of the available possibilities. I run with a 45 fps limit via RTS with my G2 running at 90 htz. It’s smooth and free of judder for how I fly, but definitely not perfect for all situations. I instantly notice judder if the fps limiter isn’t running though the fps is around 50.
