VR Optician lenses for VR headsets

Having struggled along with slightly blurry vision in my headset I decided to take a chance and drop $100 on these lenses from VR Optician. Now, I did this with some trepidation because I’m a fussy bloke and the thought of attaching 3rd party equipment to my precious (read: expensive) Varjo Aero headset caused me some concern. Still, I struggle with contact lenses and well, trying to jam a headset over glasses is awful. Let me just say that I am so impressed! The lenses arrived very well packaged and looked of excellent quality. They clipped in perfectly and do not seem to interfere at all with the automatic IPD adjustment. When I put the headset on I had an immediate “Oh Wow!” moment as everything just looked so much better than before! I highly recommend this if you’re a glasses wearer using a VR headset.

I use prescription lenses from VR Optician in my G2. I can’t rate them highly enough, very much recommended.

i’ve used vr optician lenses in 3 different headsets, very happy with them.

I also use Vr Optican in reverb G2 version 1. Nice improvement. I wish i had ordered them early’er.

Thanks for the heads up. My eyesight is getting worse so glasses for close up is a must. I’m currently waiting for my Varjo Aero RMA to arrive. The headset was blurry as a defect, and I thought it was my eyesight. That put the question in my head about my visual experience with a working unit. I will definitely look into this if the headset is still blurry once I get my working unit.

One question. Does it cause any color fringing issues in the VR display?

I don’t notice any colour fringing.

My experience with them was not that good. I went back to VR Lens Labs, who I have used for my 3 headsets - twice after trying others and being disappointed. The other I used was Widmo, which I did on recommendation. They were awful.

I took them to my local optician and she told me they had the lenses at the wrong rotational angle.

The VR Optician ones were slightly out of focus - so no better than not using lenses. When I contacted them their attitude was “we did them right so there can’t be an issue”.

That’s why I went back to VR Lens Labs - always reliable, always helpful with support. They just take a bit longer to deliver.

Ah that’s unfortunate but good to know there are other places that can produce quality lenses.

I started wearing contacts since my glasses would not fit my G2. Unfortunately, my 30 days contacts were lasting just 2 weeks before they dried out because of the G2’s heat.
I ordered my prescription thru VR Optician and I love them! No glitches, and to anyone considering ordering, just make sure you entered your prescription correctly.

Best advice I would give for that is, if possible do what I did and send a scan of your prescription.

I didn’t do that because I wasn’t sure, I did it in case there were issues and the “you must have given us the wrong data” excuse wouldn’t hold water.

After many years experience (mostly good, but some shockers), I’m a belt & braces guy when it comes to any kind of buying over the internet!

Using Vr Optician with Quest 2, highly recommended.

Actually, Meta have their own recommended prescription lenses, too (see their Quest accessories page for the original info & link) here:

My experience with prescription lenses is that the sweet spot in the center of view is much clearer, but the periphery is much much worse. Without the lenses, I could kind of make out gauges by looking down without moving my head. With the lenses, I need to move anything that I want to see clearly to the center of the headset’s view, so much more head movement is required for every tiny glance. The clarity trade-off ended up being not worth all the extra neck muscle twitching, so I stopped using them.

This was with the Reverb G2 and lenses from HonsVR, so maybe a different combination or lens vendor would yield better results.

I think I’m also experiencing the same. I use lenses from VRWave and they add more distances between my eyes and the Reverb G2 lens. The result is the sweet spot seems to be reduced.

So yeah just something to be aware of if you’re getting prescription VR lenses.

Do you end up using your glasses back @OttoPilot2235? I’m thinking maybe this can be mitigated if I get Reverb G2 thinner harness and head padding. I know it should work because when I remove all of the padding and headrest, the sweet spot is improved but my comfort is much reduced.

I never use my glasses, I’m too afraid of scratching my headset lenses. I think what I really want are prescription replacement lenses, not a second lens that stacks on top of the original. Optically, I think that configuration is just a recipe for too many compromises.

I got a set of lenses from VR Optician for my HP Reverb G2.

They stick out quite a bit more than I was expecting, enough that I need to have the spacer in otherwise my eyelashes brush up against them.

As others have said things outside the sweet spot seem to be a tad blurrier with the inserts than when wearing my glasses.

Also I get more chromatic adoration near the edges with the inserts in than without. This is really noticeable in the F-16 in DCS MFD’s since the range rings on the HSD are purple and out of the corner of my eye look like separate red and blue lines.

On the plus side it’s way more comfortable than wearing my glasses and I don’t have to worry about my glasses scratching the lenses.

Mine are arriving tomorrow, i just couldn’t get glasses under my G2, hoping my impression is as positive.

And? I am doubting to order mines between vr-lens-lab.com, choosing the better ones option, more FOV they say, and vroptician.com

I bought lens adapters back when I was using a Reverb G2, it worked ok but one them didn’t stay in place very well and was always falling out.

When I got my Varjo Aero I got a new pair of glasses and chose the smallest frames I could find that fit my head and that works well for me wearing them under the headset. I brought my headset with me when shopping for the glasses to make sure it was going to work well. So now I have a special more compact pair of glasses just for use with VR but have another pair I like better for general use. I also got the blue light filtering on my glasses to help protect my eyes.
