VR Support in FS2024

I have heard murmerings that MS/Asobo is considering dropping VR support for FS2024. Please tell me this lunacy is just a rumor! VR is THE FEATURE that makes simming worthwhile for me. I’ve been doing FS, every version since 1998. I’ve built several rigs for it, and spent thousands on dollars on peripherals and add-ons. When VR support was introduced, I thought I’d died and gone to heaven. It is literally the only way I want to experience flight simulator.

Asobo, don’t do us dirty. PLEASE say you’ll continue to support VR in 2024!!! Your rabid hardcore enthusiasts thank you.

If VR is not supported in MSFS 2024 I will not buy it. VR is the reason I returned to flight simming after a 15 year hiatus.

Hi, I don’t think they’ll be making the same mistake twice, anyway as posted on the other thread the Helisimmer interview from the Expo briefly mentioned VR so any “rumours” are just that and nothing more.

Yeah, given the percentage of VR users, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them leave it in “maintenance” mode – keep it working, but don’t focus on new features or significant improvements.

Our biggest hope is that there’s someone on the team at Asobo who is a VR fan and wants to make it better. There are overall roadmaps and priorities for games, but having a team member who is an advocate for a feature can make a huge difference. (Hell, MSFS’s very existence is thanks to Jorg’s enthusiasm for the product, I’m certain.)

Microsoft can be very annoying at times when it comes to deprecating features “a minority” use – witness the WIn 11 taskbar. Sure, only a small percentage of us used the features they cut, but that turned out to be tens of millions of people who lost daily used features since so many people use Windows. So I do worry when adoption percentages are low.

But I doubt MSFS would alienate the over 10% of their user base, who are among the most vocal and engaged users, who have invested $400-1500 in hardware to make the VR experience better.

Given they haven’t said one way or another to me means they just don’t know when it will be ready. I’ve seen no evidence so say it won’t happen.

They don’t do VR on the Xbox as a rule at it is a
is more a low cost, for the masses, PC alternative.

Initial release will probably be 99.99925% Xbox focused.

Oh god yes. I’ve seen MS kill off so much innovation.

If Steve Jobs had worried as much about appealing to what the masses think they want we would have never had the iPhone.

Apparrently Jorg himself is a VR fan, but even he admits that it’s a minority interest. So they concentrate their effort on more popular areas, such as missions. But his interest is probably sufficient to ensure VR is maintained although not improved.

Your could argue that it’s not maintained though, with the amount of bugs and issues when using VR.

I also wouldn’t buy it without VR as I have made 100% of flights in VR since trying it - VR is As Real As It Gets

I will not buy it without VR. Flight sim is the killer app for VR and I don’t see how they can say they want to make the best simulator if they won’t support VR.
Wish they would make a re-assuring statement on this to kep my hopes from dimming.

Confirmed in Helisimmer’s article:

"So, no. Nothing is being taken away and that trailer is not showing everything the sim will be. We are getting what we already have right now, plus the new features and content.

And, yes, for those that were freaking out because perhaps VR was going to be removed, VR is part of the package. I really see no reason for that not to happen – but then again, I also didn’t see why airliners would be removed – yet folks seem to be going nuts over it and I hope this helps them settle down and relax."

(Note that part of the reason there was concern is that Microsoft has massively reduced its investment in VR/XR in the last year.)

WHEN, not “if” AI makes it possible for people to talk through their checklists and commands for more complex aircraft, I suspect VR is going to get a big boost from the “my plane is too complex for VR controllers” crowd.

I’m a big VR advocate, but I don’t have the hardware to run it smoothly while keeping it pretty and usually find it’s not worth the tradeoff.

Flat-screen flight sims are yesterday’s tech. A monitor has its advantages, comfort, convenience… good for learning controls, navigation etc. But there’s almost no immersion… it’s like flying the aircraft from air traffic control. VR puts you in the cockpit… with a sense of scale/height. Quality VR for MSFS 24 is essential.

Especially with these awesome new breed of VR goggles that where announced early this year. Finally no more 1000g heavy bricks belted to the face anymore but nice light-weight techy googles
This is the future of VR.

Which ones? I’m just asking for a shortlist, can search for them myself then.

Thanks.

Great to hear that MSFS 2024 will have VR. Without VR MSFS 2024 would be a no-go for me.

Here are a few examples:

Shiftall’s Slim & Light PC VR Headset MeganeX to Launch Early 2023

There where a few more, look for new VR headset designs 2023 or other keywords on YouTube

If you want to cheap out go for the Oculus Quest 2, absolute awesome headset I had a lot of fun with in Flight Simulator, DCS and Alien Isolation. And it can be bought for 350-450 € depending on where you buy it. The wireless connection is first-class (Air Link) but you can use a cable too because the battery is very weak when using the Oculus wireless.
Here is the modified upgraded version of my Oculus, with the counterweight on the top it is really comfortable:

(Tip: Don´t forget to install the Mother-Mod for Alien Isolation 3D, this and Half-Life Alyx where the best games I have ever played in VR!!) Mostly they come out at night. And they fear fire…

Also get ready for Ryzen 8000 and the new Radeon 7000 series when the new Fenix Version 2 Block 2 is released  and a new mainboard because the Ryzen 8000 is AM-5 socket.
