Took the Kodiak on a short flight from Shoreham to a grass strip in Kent and so far, all is good and VR is a joy to use at the moment. Taking off from runway 20 with a strong Westerly crosswind caught me napping and the flight almost ended before it had started but I made up for it with a perfect landing on the grass strip in Kent with quite a fierce cross wind, keeping everything straight and lined up. Quite an achievement for me.
I did notice cockpit zoom stays stuck in zoom when I mouse over a Garmin screen and only releases when I move mouse away from Garmin. This may be being dealt with elsewhere and I only noticed it since I can now see the wood for the trees. Minor weird bug. Not too bothered personally.
I’ve gotten more skilled since I started in 2D, but VR helps with those cross wind landings.
I’m not sure if I’d be able to get a sense of I’m going in the direction of the runway while pointed in a different direction as easily. It’s satisfying to yaw at touchdown and be perfectly lined up.
I hope they tackle that avionics switch. I didn’t mind the windows exiting the airplane as much as the avionics switch bug. It’s so unsettling.
I did just do a search for it but, what is the avionics switch bug?
Yes Yawing before touchdown is a great feeling and if you can hold it, gives you the right position on the rudders to maintain a straight landing roll.
I like to try and yaw on approach in a crosswind and hold wings level and staying lined up with aileron. Whilst being harder to do than a crabbed approach with yaw on touchdown, it feels like your a pro.
I think I know what you mean now when you say avionics switch, looking at your earlier post.
There is some history to this.
Some time ago the community wanted the be able to decide when to end a flight rather than the sim determining when a flight is over by sensing an aircraft shutdown state. The devs tried to accomodate this request but as you can see, when you finish a flight by turning off avionics switch or sometimes Master switch, the sim tries to quit and then lurches back into the flight, which is pretty freaky in VR (don’t know what it’s like in 2d, as i don’t use it)
I think it’s fair to say that this process could use some TLC from the devs but where it is on their list of priorities, maybe others know.
I was always asking myself what people are speaking about, but thanks your descirption it’s a well-known issue which I observe as well. I think it’s coupled to a double entry in the flight log of length just 0 seconds.
Yeah, the double entry is annoying but I can live with it. The flying experience is what I really care about, and maintaining immersion. The way flights end could definitley benefit from some more work from the devs, but I don’t want to seem greedy.
What they have done for VR today is more than enough to stop me moaning… (for a while, anyway)
