Hello guys,
I am currently playing MSFS 2024 and for a long time already I have plenty of issues with the game, I mean no wonder tho…
I am running it on a laptop with the specs:
I7-13th gen
32 GB RAM
RTX 4060 - 8GB
This happens way more often recently with some decent settings and FPS buffer the game still lags and gets like 15 FPS during landing ( Approach ) and I get the message of “ VRAM exceeded “. I was looking around for some new settings to make the game run smooth for longer because whatever flight is above 4hr the landing becomes worst and worst with even lower FPS. I couldn’t find something helpful yet.
I know its not high end laptop but until SU 2 the game ran excellent. And as per what the devs recommend its supposed to be working smooth on RTX 2080.
You guys have the same issue ? What settings you got ? Which settings would you recommend for my specs ?
What are your settings? What aircraft are you trying to fly and to what airports? do you have other things running in the background? web browser etc
running a detailed 3rd party aircraft into JFK will stress my system and has brought it to a crawl before
I think showing us screenshots of your settings would be more useful than hearing ours as most likely our systems aren’t the same. this way people here can tell you exactly what settings to tweak to try and get better performance
That being said laptop hardware isn’t the same as desktop (I found that out the hard way with 2020). Even though it says 4060 8GB it most likely cannot pull the same power as the desktop version due to space constraints and heat.

So with 8GB of VRAM in ‘24, you’re going to have to compromise. In my experience, the biggest things you can do to reduce VRAM use in the sim are:
- Reduce Texture Resolution - probably medium, but may vary by aircraft/scenery in use
- Keep TLOD at 100 or lower
- Set Terrain Precaching to Medium or Low
- Disable Raytraced Shadows
- If your BIOS allows it, ensure Resizable BAR is set to OFF not all laptop BIOS versions may let you change this)
If you’re running a 4K screen, you’ll probably also want to use DLSS antialiasing set to Balanced.

Yep. I have 16GB of VRAM and I have to compromise a fair bit if I want to fly into complex airports with any traffic.
Your points 1 and 5 are the only ones that really helped me. DLSS can help a lot but I can’t use it because the blurry text, especially when numbers are scrolling bothers me too much. So, I have to use TAA.
Really? I have 16GB myself and the only ones I compromise on are to keep Texture Resolution on High instead of Ultra, and keep Terrain Precaching on Medium. Everything else is pretty much on Ultra, TLOD and OLOD at 200. Even using BATC traffic at complex sceneries, I don’t have VRAM problems. This evening in the PMDG 777-200ER at Flightbeam KSFO, I started at 14.4GB used, which dropped slowly to around 13.5GB.
I’m running a 4080 super with 16GB and only have issues at Un optimized sceneries. But I’ve got everything running ultra… The default JFK was one of the airports giving me issues but I don’t really go there so not a big deal.
I run Fenix, PMDG and black square planes a lot and a lot of 3rd party airports. FSLTL traffic and Rex Atmos Core
I will try this , the resolution is 2K
I am only playing in Career Mode so 737 MAX. Most of the flights are from EU to DXB/AUH/DOH.
Apart from that, I just lowered some of the environment settings and the game just crashed. I am so disappointed for the money that I have spent for this game. With medium-high settings the game crashes from take off and for landing I can barely land because of FPS drop.
I would turn down grass, rocks, bushes, trees to low or medium, fauna to low or off(I saw someone who had a good result from turning fauna off Completely), sea traffic/ road traffic to low or medium.
Also remember to restart your sim after making these changes.
Also watch some YouTube videos on the different settings and they’re effects on visuals. I found a lot of settings I noticed very little difference betwen high and ultra other than ultra costing me more FPS

no matter what you do ..8 gb of vram wont work simple
It will, but realistic expectations are needed. Will it look as close to real as possible with 120fps? No. But it should still be usable
It is supposed to, and has worked for me in some limited testing I did two weeks ago - I plugged my old 8GB RTX 3070 into my PC and flew the Miltech MH60 for about an hour around the Tampa Bay, Florida region, an area where I have two third-party airports installed (Tampa, KTPA and Clearwater/St. Petersburg, KPIE). I flew in live weather, which was blustery with storms around. There were a few more hitches and stutters than I typically get with my 16GB 4070 Ti Super, but it was perfectly flyable with settings similar to what I described above, plus FSR frame generation.

I thought 8GB was ok and it worked for the most part, then got the inib A350 and definitely didn’t work very nice, that’s when I upgraded to 5070ti

I am building a PC for flight sim and am on the fence about getting a 9070XT because not sure if 16GB is going to be enough, there are not many other options after that for higher VRAM without getting into crazy money. Hoping that sim update 4 will fix the VRAM issues but I have my doubts.
The 7900XTX is a good choice with 24GB VRAM I’ve seen some streamers using it with good results. And it’s very reasonably priced

Yea but it wont support FSR4 I believe. I still have some parts to buy and am leaving the GPU until the end. We will see what SU4 brings.
Yea but even without it I know one streamer running a 2k monitor, screen recording and streaming and gets very good performance. That extra VRAM does make a difference. I’m currently running 16GB and if I could I would have went with the 7900 xtx… $150 cheaper and 6 more GB
Its a tough choice lol. I have some more time to think about it anyway.
