VRAM Performance Regression

That’s interesting.

I have 11Gb VRAM. My fps starts to fall when I get above 7Gb of usage, stutters start above 8Gb and a slideshow above 9Gb.

How much VRAM do you have, and do you not see any falloff in fps/performance until you hit the maximum?

Thanks.

Today on my flight from KDEN to KSAT I’ve had the same VRAM issue.

  • RTX 4080 16GB
  • Custom Scenery KSAT from Ini
  • Fenix A320 SL

My Vram was completely full on approach and the sim started to stutter. When panning around there were multiple bigger laggs. On departure in KDEN, also an custom scenery, there were no problems at all.

So sad that the sim uses every inch of my VRAM until it starts to stutter. Never had that one in 2020. Would be great if they would find anything related to that, or change anything.

I’m joining this discussion.

Interestingly, I’d not experienced any VRAM-related issues since SU2 Beta started (that I am aware of), however with .12 I am seeing 22-23GB used of my 24GB in both the C414AW and the F28 and 21-22 in the Transall.

I have no previous screenshots or data to compare to beyond never seeing the limit and receiving the GPU excess performance message until this .12 iteration of the sim.

I can see and feel it before the message appears. I’d been singing the praises of SU2 Beta all through the versions until now.

After update to 1.4.12,I have suffered a lot of stutters which was caused by vram issues. In many handcraft airports(such as epkk), the vram usage tooltip shows up.
My pc build is 9800x3d, rtx5080, 64g ram, with a 2K monitor. And most graphic settings is high to ultra.

I too am having stuttering and VRAM spikes in .12 that I did not have in .11. This includes lower FPS. :frowning:

There is definitely still a VRAM issue. Just the other day the beta ate up 33 of my 32GB! It gave the warning and started eating into system RAM.

It obviously eats whatever vram it can find.. How to report? Do we file a bug report of some kind?

I agree, as long as the sim doesn’t use more VRAM than exists.

I long for the day I can see 22GB of my available 24GB being allocated.
Right now (on SU1) I’ve never seen it go above 14GB, no matter what I throw at it. I usually see around 10-11GB.

The issue here is it is eating VRAM, hitting limits, spilling over into shared and throwing a warning message that says we need to turn down graphic settings, and performance tanks.

So, yeah, it isn’t an issue of it using what it can safely, it’s out of bounds.

I was not seeing this in earlier builds of SU2 Beta and now I am with .12.

I understand. I’m on SU1. I leave the Beta testing to braver souls than I.

This is already the top reported bug in FS2024, but for some reason it is now marked as “fixed” in SU2 when it very obviously isn’t.

Yes I don’t really understand why people believe that if the average VRAM usage is higher they will have less issues, I don’t get their feeling that the VRAM is higher now but more stable.

In the development update SEB said that the VRAM was going to be reduced by almost 1gb, at least on his RTX3070 rig… This is absolutely not what I’m seeing right now. If the glass is already almost full, going in the outside view will make it overflow and induce terrible frame rate for a good 5 minutes before it unloads.

We need a LOWER AVERAGE VRAM USAGE and it shouldn’t Overflow..

On my system with 8GB only I make it work in SU1 because I have a very low average vram usage (5.7/7GB Available), so I have a nice gap before it overflows. In SU2 I took almost +0.5gb of VRAM in average, it’s really bad because I run now around 6.2ish, If I add vatsim I’ll be a 6.4. Now the gap before tanking my fps is only 0.6 and it’s not difficult to reach that. Only a pushback and moving the camera to start the engines and the VRAM will jump.

11GB… what card you have?

GTX 1080 Ti

It’s certainly an old card, but I’m reluctant to upgrade to a card with less VRAM.

Just another datapoint. I loaded the A310 into KSFO (Gaya?) on my laptop and it was an instant GPU turn down settings message.

I’m clearly seeing this issue manifesting itself on both my machines. The laptop is running its default graphics settings (again, Asobo assessed…) with Static OFF and Air Traffic OFF.

I don’t have any scenery, any utilities and nothing else running on this laptop.

VRAM really is an issue, for me, with this .12 build on both my PCs — each one at the opposite ends of the specifications spectrum.

I don’t know if this is VRAM related, but in most airports I have stuttering when decelerating on the runway upon landing and this is the main issue I see in 2024 (both SU1 and SU2 beta), highly reducing immersion. Same scenery on 2020 is butter smooth…

he probably have a 12gb card but the sim will show 11gb

9070XT has plenty VRAM and is performing well for its price in MSFS 2024

I don’t know If the problem some people is experiencing is like this:

But this is what happen now with my game while flying from SANTOS DUMONT (RIO DE JANEIRO), airport which comes with the new world update.

I already tried to downgrade my drivers (572.xx to 566.36) and “downgrade” from the SU2 beta to non beta.

My specs are mid (Ryzen 5600X, 32GB DDR4 3600MHz and a RTX 4070 SUPER), but this isn’t how the game worked before (I was out for work for almost 3 weeks, and then the game started to behavior like this when I came back).

Same problem here. Just wait till vram bug is completely fixed
