Washington Monument in Washington, DC has one extra shadow plus a burned-in image of itself on the ground

Looks like some of the aerial photography on the ground needs some cleaning up, here.

There are two issues:

  1. One of the shadows in the below picture is from the Bing aerial photography. (The other one was generated in the sim.)
  2. You can see a picture of the Washington Monument burned into the ground texture, as well.

I guess it would need someone from Asobo (or whoever has access) to edit the original image stored on the server. 5 minute job.

Did you edit out the correct shadow ??

The one you removed looked like the bad one, – it also did not cast any shadow on the base, only the grass.

If the real MSFS shadow, end up looking like the 2nd (edited) screen shot, that would be an impressively generated shadow.

Yes, the shadow in the 2nd picture is the one generated in-game.

Wow, nicely done!

What is ironic, as you mention this at start of Dec 2020 is, that thet Bing Photo shadow was probably generated about early Dec,20??, as that date provided the right length shadow in that same direction.

I Active-Paused near the Monument, and altered time & month, to make the MSFS shadow match the Bing one.

SEE … There are many uses for Active Pause !!!

N6722C is an “Active Pause” Fanboy !!!

Interesting! Did you arrive at a particular date that the Bing photo may have been created? Would be interesting if we could (somehow) obtain the actual aerial photo date and compare it to see how accurate MSFS shadows are!

No reason to suspect that the MSFS shadows are not accurate, if the 3D model of the Monument is the correct height.

But why are we “literally chasing shadows” when there are far more important things, like AP, ILS headings, SDK and floating Light balls !!!

This is fixed when you install the WU10 package.
