For those VR Simmers, if you are interested, OVRDROP is a small Application that allows you to create a small window inside your Aircraft that allows you to do just about anything you would do on your pc While in VR Flight. Watch Movies on a small window you can place anywhere in the cockpit or place it on one the Back of your passenger seat and watch anything you want as you would a passenger. You can even type on Word or Excel while watching the video. Play other games on your PC is easy to. It is fairly easy to use and is available on Steam at a reasonable price. I have used it now for two weeks and not only do I love it, but think it change the way some people Sim. And best of all, with just a little tweaking your frame rates are NOT affected.
Thanks for the share on this. Looking for something exactly like this to provide an internet window, video capable. Wondering if there are alternatives people have tried and can recommend.
Does it work with the Oculus OpenXR or do you still need to force it to run using SteamVR as the OpenXR default runtime? Thanks.
If for some reason you must use SteamVR runtime for MSFS, OVR Toolkit is probably even better for bringing desktop to VR (don’t confuse with OpenXR Toolkit).
If you prefer to not use SteamVR but rather OpenXR runtime:
- Reverb G2 has native Windows Mixed Reality “bring desktop to VR” feature
- for Pimax Crystal it is more difficult, I’m using All In One tablet v.3 from Flightsimulator.me for bringing remote PC (old notebook?) desktop to VR (VNC feature).
There is also FSDesktop, designed specifically for MSFS but rather not mature yet (limited mouse control, not working well with Crystal).
Yes it will. You just have to make sure that Oculus OpenXR is set as runtime within Oculus Device software.
Yes, OVRDDP is free and available at Discord.
I See an agree but i prefer to stick with OpenXR for Pimax as it is running fantastic for me on my 8kx. It also seems that after trying other things that OVRDDP and OVRDrop are the easiest and straight forward way to go about it. But that is just my opinion.
