Water "shimmering" artifacts?

Is water shimmering a ‘normal’ issue that some have seen? ALL water rendering (lakes, rivers, fountains, etc.) has a foggy, shimmering look to it. I just re-installed MSFS about 2 weeks ago and I’ve had this issue ever since.

I have a Radeon RX 6750XT running DirectX12 with the latest drivers and have tried every graphic setting, driver uninstall/reinstall/downgrade, removing all add-on content, and nearly everything short of a re-install.

Sorry for the poor quality on the video, but you can still see what I am talking about along the river and in the distance in a fountain. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Let me try to share this again…

cant see your video - but have you tried using TAA at 100% scaling.

I found that I always saw bad water effects with any other setting, despite updates and a new nvidia 40 series.

I’m seeing something very similar with shimmering artifacts around water with my AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX. Does not affect all water, and only seems to happen at a distance.

Some more examples of these artifacts from tonight’s flight:

Maybe an AMD driver issue?

Shimmering is a side effect of FSR when the sun reflects off the waters edge. To reduce shimmering use FSR2 at quality level or use TAA. Seems like over time my shimmering has disappeared on my 7900xtx.

Also check anisotropic setting if it’s at least 8x8

Anti-aliasing is set to TAA, and anisotropic filtering is set to 16X, but unfortunately I’m still seeing these artifacts. I’ve created this bug thread for the issue: Shimmering graphics artifacts around water

I also have tried all available anti-aliasing modes, including TAA. And have toggled all anisotropic settings OFF thru 16x.

What I have found, however, is that it does not appear around ALL bodies of water… just some. For example my testing was around Rome and I found that the river, lakes, ponds, and even fountains were affected. But the nearby and much larger sea was not. So, it’ seems to be just smaller bodies of water?

I believe it has something to do with sunlight reflections.
