I’m not sure if the following effect is related to the change in water body polygon behaviour, but when flying out of NZMJ with the “NZMF Milford Sound Region Airport” marketplace add-on by NZA Simulations installed, the river that leads inland from this airport appears to have two different water levels, higher along the edge, with a deeper section running alongside the edge where the water dips down.
If the add-on is deleted using the content manager, this water distortion no longer appears. When the add-on is installed again, the effect returns.
This is with the Microsoft store version on Windows 11 24H2, on a gaming laptop running a Geforce RTX 3050 Ti GPU.
Oh, interesting. Maybe it was the lighting. Because when I deleted the add-on via the content manager, the effect seemed to go away and the water looked flat. But if you’re seeing the effect with and without the add-on, I may need to check it again.
I just revisited the same area with the beta uninstalled, and also the add-on removed, and this is how it looks in SU15 default scenery. So there is definitely something very different happening to the water at this location in the SU16 beta.
The water also seems to look a lot better visually in SU15, with more defined waves. I did not change my graphic settings at all, so the SU16 Beta is providing less-detailed water textures than SU15 under identical options for graphics and detail.
And I can also reconfirm what @N316TS discovered, that the uneven water surface appears in the default SU16 scenery outside NZMJ, without the NZA add-on, including after deleting the “World Update: New Zealand” content from the Content Manager.
Discovered another similar spot with odd water surface behaviour along the runway at YSSY airport:
With YSSY by Flytampa installed in SU16 beta:
With YSSY by Asobo studios installed in SU16 beta:
UPDATE: Since this effect did not occur with the Flytampa add-on removed in SU16 beta, I went back to SU15, and noticed the uneven water surface still appeared but only for the Flytampa add-on. I suspect Flytampa has attempted to create a “wave-like” effect along this wall, which doesn’t translate well if you happen to just stand there staring at it. So I can confirm this is NOT an example of the original water surface problem reported above. (Regression testing is cumbersome!)
Same location with YSSY by Flytampa installed in SU15
