Total and complete noob to msfs2024 here. Just got a Thrustmaster T16000 Stick + Throttle and am excited to start taking the in-sim lessons!
While my peripherals work just fine, I am overwhelmed by the controls section. I want to take lessons and learn what controls do what, so to get started I have no idea what SHOULD be mapped to what yet. I still don’t even know what all controls I’ll want/need. So I guess my question is, is the default mapping good to go for taking the lessons and learning, or do I need to adjust anything in particular to make things easier?
Also, during the lessons, when they tell you, for example, to release the parking brake (Ctrl + Space) is there a way to have that show what the equivalent is on my HOTAS instead of the keyboard? That would help make it “stick” better than constantly going back to the keyboard.
Maybe I’m just too new at this, but just looking for some advice to help make this work for me so I can progress and not get stuck with weird controls or not being able to find something when it’s taught to me. Thanks in advance for reading!
I don’t have an answer for you regarding getting it to show onscreen the controller prompt vs the keyboard. I don’t think it’s possible, but I’m not 100% certain.
But I do have a suggestion as far as setting up a custom profile for your flight stick or yoke. And that is to create a new profile and then immediately clear it by clicking the cog and choosing “Clear”.
This allows you to start with a clean slate, then just go through each control input and set it up to do whatever you want it to do. You’ll find this much faster and less confusing than trying to add to or change the default profile.
If you start with the default, you’ll inevitably end up with conflicts where an input does one thing but you want it to do something else. It’s easier to start from scratch than it is to delete the existing commands and replace them with your own.
I learned this the hard way. When the sim first released, it was notorious for losing your custom profiles and I had to recreate mine 5 or 6 times. It would take an hour or more each time, especially with an Axair MIAP and all it’s buttons and knobs.
