Way to trigger wind fan?

I have a sim rig with Sim Racing Studio fans. I’d like to be able to open/close the storm window in sim (Carenado M20R) and remotely trigger on/off the fan operation. Does anyone have any ideas how I could achieve this? I have SpadNext.

Hahaha guess you got ice all around the cockpit, no other option go lower and let the ice melt, there is no storm window handle ? @KevyKevTPA could not solve it in the Mooney, a year ago, maybe there have been updates ? they added a handle for the side window ?

If I recall correctly, if you open the storm window at anything much above walking pace in the M20R, you will die. Mind you, this was before the update to the aircraft so might not be still current.

If you had an Arduino I would expect it to be relatively trivial. You just need to get that on/off trigger to the Arduino, with some interposing bit of software.

I’ve never heard of those fans before, and didn’t realise this was off the shelf kit.

If their software allows for external input to drive it, say from the command line, I think SPAD can be set to trigger an external script/tool based on a simvar.

A simple test would be to have a SimConnect event detected by SPAD to open a copy of Notepad. If it can do that, and the software for those fans allows for external control, you are all set.

I just tested this, and it worked.

When I lifted the lever on my Logitech switch panel, Notepad was launched, though word of warning it fired a UAC prompt, so had requested elevation for some reason. But it only triggered a single time for some reason.

This might be because I was in the Caravan, with fixed gear. I could get it to trigger multiple times, but I had to flip the value in SPAD, so I expect a plane with retractable gear would work fine, as would any other value that you chose to key on, like the storm window.

But I’d be very concerned about the external application being launched with admin rights.

I was able to get it to run the fan software as you suggested above, but (as yet) not finding a way to actually toggle the fan on/off. I’m going to email them and see what they suggest.

Ideally the software would have some commands you can run to do this.
