WB-Sim C172 + MSFS2024: there's hope

The link below is set to NEVER expire

I tried your link, and I’m still have the same issue as above. It only shows the #rules channel and nothing else. Do you have any idea what could be causing this? Sorry to bug you
I just really want to be able to read/contribute to the WB discord again!

@Vincent1064 If you’d compare MSFS 2024 Cessna zu MSFS 2020 (with WBsim mod). Which one is more realistic?

Every response and thought welcome!

Unfortunately, I’ve no clue  And frankly speaking I don’t really care of the flight model. If it matches some speed and the behavior is correct with drag/flaps, I’m fine. I use my PC Sim to practice my flows, checklist and tablet (skydemon/foreflight) management, decision making during VFR flight with weather for example. And I’m more interested in instrument/avionics fidelity. The KAP150 of the Wbsim is great.

Hi Vincent,
it’s great to see you’re still so active. Question for a pro:
I installed the C172 WbSim, it runs and works, but I have two problems:

  • I can’t activate tow mode, because it puts me outside the aircraft
  • The motor sputters at first, what settings did I use wrong?
  • Thanks,
  • My answer to myself: 1. Too much wealth. 2. Reset the view, to get back into the plane.

A couple of suggestions and adding a bit more detail I hope will be useful, in case you or someone else has the same questions:

A). Maybe your #1 answer to yourself was translated? Basically, in English I’m thinking that point is “Mixture too rich” - is that what you mean to say? And definitely, if you’re trying to start the engine at a higher elevation, it will run rough (or may not even start) if the mixture is set too rich.

B). It can also cause difficulty starting the engine if you over-prime it. For instance, if during the initial priming sequence (using the electric fuel pump and mixture control) you follow the POH instructions to open the throttle only slightly - equivalent to approx 1/4” - then turn on the electric fuel pump and push mixture full rich to prime the engine before cranking it, then usually it gives a detectable but small flow on the fuel flow meter and the engine starts fine. But if instead you fully open the throttle during the prime sequence, it gives a large fuel flow indication on the meter and makes it more difficult to start - because that “floods” the engine with so much fuel it doesn’t have a feasible fuel:air ratio to ignite.

C). However, what I’ve experienced in the sim is that even after correct priming, the C172 SP won’t fire unless when you begin cranking you quickly move the mixture lever to sufficiently rich condition. In other words, leaving the mixture in idle-cutoff while commencing the starter cranking will not give you the initial burst of engine firing; you have to advance the mixture control for the engine to fire and come to life. (IRL in a real-world C172 SP, if I recall correctly, after priming you should first begin cranking and get the engine to initially fire and then quickly advance the mixture to rich. That’s the main difference I find between starting the C172 SP engine IRL versus in the WBsim C172 enhancement.)

But I am very delighted to hear it’s possible now to use the WBsim C172 enhancement in FS2024, so a big THANK YOU to all who shared the info on how to get that working!

The WBsim C172 enhancement mod in MSFS2020 is significantly more realistic in modeling the behavior of a real-world C172SP than the FS2024 C172SP, in many respects. But now I’m going to try following the instructions to get the WBsim version working in FS2024 by following the instructions in this thread.

And where can one get the wb-sim 172 mod ?

That’s exactly it.

I don’t know if it’s still for sale, but you have a thread

Oh wow! Thanks @PiotrekPilot for that link to Bagolu’s Cessna 172-M mod. I have been wishing for that airplane in FS2024 because that’s the C172 variant I actually fly IRL.

FYI: I downloaded and extracted Bagolu’s mod into the Community folder and launched it in FS2024, and it seems to work fine. I understand that not all the new FS2024 functionalities work on it, but it’s a pretty good model to fly.
