We Love VFR went GLOBAL! Region 3 released. And it has yurts!

Ok thanks for that.

Hi, I asked a few months back via email, assume we are no closer to an Xbox release? Cheers

Sadly, no. I refresh my application to the Partners Program from time to time, but still nothing.

That’s a shame how long has that been now for them to accept the application?

You’ve clearly created a much valued add-on

So far around 18 months. Maybe it will get better when a proper freeware category in the marketplace is introduced.

Region 3 has been released

Many thanks to @PuffinFlight for making the entire world! :beers:

Fantastic - this is such a great addition to MSFS! Instant download.

I guess I don’t need to make any announcements  Was too tired yesterday to run around forums.
Anyway. Yes, Region 3 went Global. We have the coverage of the whole Earth now. Gathering data for Region 3 was a major PITA. OSM data quality in this region is poor, and no governmental agencies I’ve emailed were willing to help. But I got what I could and merged it together.
And of course, the most important addition - YURTS!

Thanks for your efforts! We love VFR is one of my essential addons.

cheers

WOW - yurts! Once I made an autogen adjustment for FSX adding some yurts to the steppe area… Will visit Mongolia and have a look today.
One minor flaw with the yurts: their door traditionally always faces to the south. Otherwise they look fanstastic! Many thanks!

I didn’t know that! Thank you. I’ll change it in the next update.
BTW, my yurts are based on OpenStreetMap tag man_made=ger

Interesting fact: Asbobo/Blackshark were planning to add yurts for Mongolia. There are some lines in the code for them. But they never went further with it.

Best mod out there for msfs. Period. Cant imagine going without it anymore.

Had a look at the provincial town of Ulaangom (ZMUG) - the yurt settlements are spot on! Great, many thanks! This adds so much atmosphere.
The only drawback of the aerial imagery is that in the contryside (open steppe) there are no OSM mapped yurts for obvious reasons, and placement of yurts would have to be done by Blackshark AI. With an inhabitants density of 2 / km², there would be groups of 2-3 yurts every now and then, mostly alongside streams or near wells.

Yeah, that would require access to their system that detects buildings. But at least it’s something. Even Ulaanbataar is only partially mapped with yurts.
Still, there are some settlements as you described

So authentic (without the Cub ), very nice yurt texture. Now, we only need flocks of horses, sheep and cattle and the occasional parked off-road car to make the illusion of being there perfect.
It’s a funny thing, however, that such temporary yurt positions outside of settlements are mapped in OSM. As a whole, it’s astonishing how much data are there for the Mongolian countryside: gers, fences, steppe tracks (won’t call them roads), small shops in the villages. Mappers must have used some scripts or were really hard-working.

If only animated animals didn’t kill FPS. Static? Maybe. But I don’t know if it’s worth it.

PS: There are 3 yurt models in the addon. Unfortunately without autogen SDK I can’t add more random variations.

Flocks should be static. I hope, someone someday makes low poly (the good old 3 plane imposter with 128*128 texture would do it) animals that can be grouped to form flocks of several hundred and placed as complete flocks. You won’t normally land near them to see the low quality. The view from 500 ft alt is more important imho.
Placing a handfull of nicely modeled, animated animals would only make sense directly behind an airport fence.

Three yurt models seem completely sufficient to me, as you have one with a more brownish texture already in the set.

Does the SDK allow for flashing safety lights on towers/antennas yet? Could have sworn that was something you wanted to add to We Love VFR, but wasn’t supported at the time.

Nope. There is something kinda like that, but it works only at airports. And yes, I’ve tried to create a fake airport, but objects don’t spawn outside of some range from the said airport.
I use LODs to make lights a bit more visible, but they will never be as good as those you can see at wind turbines.
I have one idea, but it needs a lot of experimentation and performance test.
