We need a multiplayer voice - chat option

Well, I very much doubt if that will ever happen in MSFS => LIABILITY

Does X-Box have an Audio Chat ability - maybe you could use that …

I don’t know if I want to be bombared with a lot of players chit-chatting (and worse) when I am on Tower’s Frequency, trying to listen to ATC.

Well, I do know actually —

NO

Yes, but consider – do they want to communicate with you, or listen to what you have to say ?

Who is THEY ? More volunteer Mods ? It’s just not going to happen, otherwise it would already be here …

Microsoft have been down this slippery path before, in past sims, and it did not go well..

@N6722C, maybe they could add an option in Settings to allow users the option to communicate with other players. If they opt out, then when they are on the same frequency as me, they will not hear what I have to say.

Good point, but they are still setting up a audio communication chat environment, where anyone from 10-80 can talk freely and openly, and as inappropriately as they will, without any supervision or control.

They do not even allow user generated Tail Numbers to display on planes in MP - do you really think they arer going to allow a free open chat for all owners of MSFS ?

If MSFS were going to have built in Voice Communications they would have had it implemented from release day.

But this is only my own personal thoughts & opinions.. why not ask in the Q&A sessions, or vote here, and see what happens. ?

@N6722C, good points. I like the idea of being able to mute players. So if I am on a frequency and hear someone being obnoxious, I can mute them. No moderators needed.

I just think it would add a deeper level of immersion to the sim. The built-in ATC is really not good, but if we could at least communicate with each other, then it could add a little more realism to the sim.

Anyway, I have voted. I will try to make a point to bring it up at the next Q&A. Take care.

First of you dont have to open the chat, if you dont like it, dont open it.

Same is for unicom, if you dont want to hear others, dont tune in on frequency.

You are talking as if people are forced to be spammed. There are a gazillion ways to prevent it.

Post repeat and links can be banned automatically, it doesnt even require any mods.

Well, lets see how it all works out for you …

Meanwhile, I’ll continue to use Discord, Vatsim, or PE, and be 100% content.

I have skipped to the bottom to comment and move on, so forgive me if this has already been said.
I don’t care much for voice chat as I have watched it all change over the decades and I don’t like the way all the ‘new’ players behave on voice. This just the way I feel nowadays and not reflective for many/most.

What I do want however, is TEXT chat so we can at least catch-up with friends and announce a flight etc(without using a 3rd party program). This simple chat box system can be bot-managed as easy as any other game out there, but as clearly stated before, this is a flight simulator and won’t attract the usual trolls from shoot-em-up games.

So come on dev’s, give us a CHAT BOX, and work on other communications later when you have it all sorted out

Just use DISCORD --Text , Audio , and streaming your MSFS Video .. and your Server Admins can admin it, .. its far better than Asobo could ever provide in MSFS.

Discord is not the same as proximity chat. I admit I am not a Discord user, so I could be completely wrong. But I believe if I wanted to use Discord, I would have 2 choices to begin a flight while chatting with people.

  1. Log in to discord and find a channel, or a room, or whatever you call it, where people are flying. Then find out where they are flying, and if it seems like a neat place to fly, then I can begin a flight where they are. It also seems like we would also have to all be on the same server in MSFS if we wanted to see each other.

  2. Organize a flight in advance at an agreed upon location and date and time and join the flight.

These might be perfectly good options for some people, but it’s not a good option for me.

If Asobo were to create a proximity voice chat option for those that want it, that’s great. If you don’t want to use it, then don’t.

Please don’t argue against it in a forum of users who would like to have the option to use it. No one will force you to use it.

I want to be able to open MSFS, go to an airport, and communicate with whoever is also in my area, and has opted to participate in voice chat, and is on my frequency. I also want to have the ability to mute anyone that is being annoying by playing music or being rude or obnoxious. No need for moderators. Each person creates their own ignore list.

Does vatsim support sending and receiving radio traffic on pilot-specified discrete frequencies?
Does vatsim support sending and receiving radio traffic on CTAF in uncontrolled airspace?
Do vatsim’s rules allow these usage scenarios?

Yes, all frequencies work

Yes, though VATSIM uses 122.800 as a “global” CTAF until we can figure out the best way of implementing discrete CTAF frequencies in a way that will be easy to understand for everyone.

VATSIM currently technically doesn’t allow air-to-air communication on designated frequencies, mainly due to moderation. However the ruleset is due for an update soon, so we’ll see what comes out of that.

This is a really bad idea

I’d love to be able to use the radio frequencies of unmanned airports to talk and listen to other pilots on the same frequency. Anyone tuning in to the frequency will likely be using it properly.

But yea, just in general a frequency that allows shared voice transmission within a range would be brilliant.

Something like this would be neat, or even something like a “quick chat” option, that lets you set hotkeys to speak predetermined phrases.

I’m all for more options, as long it has the ability to be disabled and turned off as well.

Chat feature is a great idea.
Especially when flying for fun and gives the chance for PC and XBOX users to connect in the simulator.
Prehaps even an option to ‘‘group up’’ or invite people to a in-game chat (avoids spam or people spoiling the experience by not using the chat appropately)

There should however been an option to disable the chat for those who do not wish to use it.

want to CHAT – How about Discord ?

A far better and complete solution, than Asobo could ever implement withing MSFS.. (and no Legal issues for Microsoft)>

Not everyrthing need to be INCLUDED, as part of MSFS ..

ie There is no need for Asobo to add a BACKUP system withing MSFS, or add a Calendar, or a Word Processor .. even though you may want to use one while using MSFS.

Let us have VOX communication between other players.
Most aircraft have two comm radios that have frequencies of 118.000 to 135.975.
Why not let us tune our comms tune to 140.00 and above for live players. A player must be tuned to the same frequency as one another, in order to communicate.

I have no interest in using a 3rd party communication system.. ie Teamspeak, or any other thing and everyone else shouldn’t be forced to do so either.
This should already be a feature in this Sim.

i would like to see a feature where players can chat through a radio frequency within a certain distance. id like more of an online community experience.

I Thought it could be either a drop down menu like atc, weight and balance and weather etc. with chat lobbies or frequency through aircraft radio and maybe having it show what lobby/frequency a player is on, on their nameplate so people can join.
