In recent light I informed Discord about a site that is hosting stolen payware content from third-party sites like SimMarket to individual creator websites like Big Radials. In short, they don’t care.
Note: I did inform the MSFS Support Team about this website so they can give them a Cease and Desist letter. and they stated:
So hopefully this website will be taken down in a few days or weeks.
This website has a Discord server where members upload files and ask for files directly of payware content to be uploaded onto the site. I informed Discord about this and all they had to say was: “we won’t take any action” in deleting the server.
They see nothing wrong with people hosting stolen software/content. People are stealing from third-party creators and Discord just doesn’t care about you.
It’s pretty remarkable that Discord doesn’t care at all in terms of their own ToS. I really suggest moving to Guilded if you really want your voice heard as a content creator.
People using their system for something illegal is their problem though and they could easily shut it down. I imagine that if Discord got a letter from Microsoft’s lawyers they would take it more seriously.
In most places ‘handling stolen goods’ is a criminal offence. If Discord are hosting a server containing pirated material - that is in effect exactly what they’re doing.
Did they state that in another communication you have not shared here, only I cannot see that quoted comment in the response you posted?
Did they perhaps say that after you submitted the DMCA report they requested you complete as the formal means of raising such an issue?
Most already know. Most say “yeah, I know. have no time or interest to fight piracy” and another creator says “They hide behind several proxies and the proxies say it’s not their fault.”
So more or less, neither the proxies or Discord can’t do anything.
All you can do is contact the content owners themselves. Think about. All you are is an annoyed third party. You aren’t the one committing, or suffering copyright infringement, but you are a concerned witness to it.
Let the content owners do something about it, via the DMCA takedown route.
Ok, well I would suggest you consider how you quoted text because it really implies that’s what someone has literally stated. I understand and get that your interpretation was their response, but that is not really true.
Noted the Discord response could have been presented better, but they may well get thousands of such requests and comments hence they push such requests to a formal process.
That aside I would certainly agree with contacting the third parties directly to provide them with details so they can take further actions and pursue in their own interests.
Just stay away from that discord server, simple as that, no need to get bent out of shape, people that are willing to use pirated software will do so no mater what, if discord takes it down it will pop up somewhere else, take pride in knowing that you support the devs by buying thier products legitimately, all your doing by getting all huffy bout it is making yourself feel bad, in my opinion a waste of energy, use your energy to enjoy your legitimately obtained software and have fun, thats what this whole industry is about.
Just my 2 cents
Have a good day😊
You can‘t do that. You are not the owner of that content. Follow the instructions that Discord has given to you, as seen in the letter that you shared.
Internet warrior is here!
lol who cares, just enjoy your game. You know that discord has nothing to do with this? People create the servers not discord. Better invest that time into promoting quality addons by providing legit links where to buy them, posting videos, screenshots, doing reviews etc.
This reminds me fighting drugs by going after drug users, you get one, 5 more appear instantly. It’s just not worth the effort dude.
