Mission: Low-Level Bomber Training Run
MSFS2024 Edition
This week we’re dusting off the heavy iron for a classic WWII bomber run across southern England! Fire up those Lancasters, Stirlings, and Hampdens for a low-level training flight that’ll hug the coast, brush the cliffs, and skim over English countryside.
Departure: Lee-On-Solent (EGHF)
Pub Stop: Biggin Hill (EGKB)
Destination: Cardiff (EGFF)
Target Speed: ~170 knots / 200 mph
Altitude: ~1000 ft or lower (tree-top territory!)
Aircraft Type: Heavy/Med WWII Bombers (see suggestions below)
Route Summary:
We’ll launch from Lee-On-Solent and trace the southern coast of England, cruising past the White Cliffs of Dover, circling the Isle of Thanet, and entering the Thames Estuary. Our halfway point is Biggin Hill for a cheeky pub stop. From there, we throttle down for a more relaxed westbound leg across the green patchwork of Surrey, Oxfordshire, and Gloucestershire, finally crossing the Severn into Cardiff, Wales.
Suggested Aircraft:
- AVRO Lancaster (Aeroplane Heaven)
- Short Stirling (Virtavia)
- Handley Page Hampden (Virtavia)
On-Theme Alternatives:
- Heinkel He 111 (CaptainSim + 2024 mod)
- Stock DC-3 (with Duckworks + Cargo mod for vibes)
- Fighter Escort Options: Hurricane Mk1 or Spitfire Mk1a (similar cruise speeds)
Fuel burn fix highly recommended for the Hurricane!
Whether you’re here for the nostalgia, the visuals, or just a solid cruise with good company, this flight’s got it all – terrain, teamwork, and a pub stop mid-mission.
Ready your radials, stay low, and see you in the skies!
