Hi, I’m experiencing weird graphics, flickering and artifacts (especially around edges), and I wonder if anyone can help me get my settings right.
You can see white borders around trees and also the scenery is a bit weird when the structure of the aircraft moves across it (e.g. the water, etc.) You can often see shadows rendering behind the scenery as the aircraft passes it. It’s just a bit weird.
I’ve attached several GIFs that demonstrate the weirdness I’m seeing.
And my current settings are also attached.
Wonder if you can solve any of these issues or are they just the way the graphics engine renders?
Is the flickering not simply the propeller showing up in the captured frames now and then?
There are propeller mods that might help you out.
The other weirdness (reflections in water not showing near edges) is due to MSFS using screen-space reflections. Basically, only things that are shown elsewhere on the screen can be drawn in a reflection, so in cases where the object reflected is off-screen, the reflection cannot be shown either.
This may or may not be solved in MSFS 2024 with its ray tracing support. AFAIK only ray traced shadows have been confirmed so far, but I might be wrong there.
Hi, thanks for your reply. Actually, sorry - I forgot to upload the flickering one. I’ll post it here.
The one that you can see the propeller in, it’s not around the prop that’s the problem, it’s around the left hand side of the dash. You can see the rendering happening - just looks a bit strange, that’s all.
As for the reflections I can understand that, fair enough.
Any ideas about the white borders that appear around objects like trees? Is there anything in the graphics settings I can play with as far as you know?
Really hope they can fix some of these things in 2024.
Cheers.
This was taken totally stationary. As you can see, the engines are off:
And sometimes, the problem I’m trying to solve is hard to see at first glance. But it’s here:
The flicker issue there looks like what’s called “Z fighting”, where two things are basically sharing the same space and the GPU can’t decide which to show in front, and it ends up alternating the two like that. Probably not much you can do except possibly reinstall drivers and such, though I wouldn’t bet on it helping.
If it only happens in a few places it’s probably an issue with the scenery (whether stock or modded).
Yeh the drivers are latest and have been uninstalled and re-installed but still the same issue. It’s probably just down to sub-optimal coding/scenery like you say.
