We're hosting the biggest ever VATSIM newbie event

Hey everyone,

In collaboration with the CaptainAB VATSIM Training Program, VATSIM and VATUSA, we’re hosting the biggest ever VATSIM event made for newbie flight simmers, new to the VATSIM network or afraid of flying on it.

In this event there will be full ATC. The difference: ATC will be extra patient and all controllers are aware of the presence of new VATSIM pilots.

I’m booked. I’ve been wanting to fly VATSIM for a long time, but I’m afraid of looking like a 69-year-old noob. This is just the thing I need. Thanks!

There were probably other events like this, but glad to see announcements like this here. Great work @CaptainAB2020! Can’t say I have seen as much communication regarding VATSIM until recently.

For new pilots, would be great if in addition to observer mode if there was a dedicated airport/air space with the same tolerant ATC. I know that’s a big ask but I would be one to take advantage of it.

I am very interested in giving Vatsim a try, I have never used any form of ATC before and have no idea how it works so this’ll be perfect. I apologize in advance I will likely be messing up big time. One of my biggest concerns is it’s hard to see the runway numbers on the simulator and in the built-in map so I would have no idea where to taxi to, have any suggestions?

Everything is completely free, and there’s a ton of training material available.

I’ve done a few of these events and they have been very well done.

I use little navmap
It’s great for flight planning and almost every thing else flight simulation… give it a try

I was going to try this but sadly it seems to be only IFR. To new to jump into that, still VFR. Hopefully in the future.

You need a co-pilot with just a lil bit better eyes than yourself , that’s all . . .

I use Little Nav Map too. If you zoom in on the airport you can see your plane and taxiways are all marked. Never use the giant blue ribbon now.

What happens if I don’t sign up and simply join the event on vPilot? Just curious what signing up does…

You will probably face delays if you aren’t booked traffic.
