What actual speed controls are available to you on P51 during reno air races?

I see a tantalizing switch in the cockpit labelled ‘supercharger’ but it seems to be inoperative. When I’m doing the Reno air races I seem to start at max prop rpm and max throttle, reducing prop rpm only reduces my speed. Are these races literally just a question of stick and rudder control and nothing else?

Simple answer is yes, inside Reno Race.

Freeflight is slightly different as the flight modeling is tweaked for Reno Race.
Either way, do no expect to be flying a 1945 P51D warbird.
It’s a modifed Reno Racer.

And yes Supercharger high is n/a. It’s set to low because the Reno Version does not fly at 15’000+ or use wep.

Frequent racers might hopefully chime in (and you can find them discussing commonly on the Reno poll thread)

As I understand it there is actually some performance to be gained by tuning the prop pitch in race also. Some have mentioned rough “sweet spots” for certain aircraft but most will probably keep their particular secret sauce settings to themselves.
