This is a field in a rural part of California that has been populated with dense housing.
Looking at a satellite image from Bing Maps, there isn’t anything in the field that could be there confusing the auto-gen engine.
Does anyone know what causes these sorts of oddities?
I find this sort of thing highly entertaining!

Interesting.
This should be reported as a bug. Maybe they can find an underlying cause.

They must hate me and my bugs…
I actually myself just loaded up in the sim to look (coordinates are 38.841901 -121.713462) and yes, there is a tightly-packed neighborhood there.
I went up to about 10k feet and it looked like a cloud.
My guess is that the cloud casted a shadow on the ground, and the AI tool they use must have thought that they were houses when in reality, it was the shadow of the cloud
Just my guess

Why is the underlying texture so different?
I was going to point out the oddly repetitive nature in the pattern which would likely mean cloud cover and AI making assumptions (hallucinating?? hmmm) but the second underlying texture is so different…kind of odd.
I always thought those things were farm equipment or haybales or even cars and people being turned into small houses by Blackshark but I dont know. I like to imagine its a large group of people having a party in a place they were sure they would never be seen and they end up being captured for all time in video game.
