What did you do in MSFS today? (Part 1)

The latest instalment of my journey across Canada and the US has me having to modify my flight plan to be able to join with a fly-in from South Bend IN (KSBN) to Oshkosh WI (KOSH), hosted by Microsoft Flight Simulator.

The new fp goes: Dodge City KS (KDDC) - Lyons KS (KLYO) - South Bend IN (KSBN) - Chicago IL (KORD) - Milwaukee WI (KMKE) - Oshkosh WI (KOSH). Approx 1450km, and 5ish hours in the air.

As part of my tour activities, I look up information on the locales that I visit. Lyons KS was a stop I chose because of it’s proximity to my line of flight to South Bend and because of the time constraint. Lyons KS, a little community originally named Atlanta, was originally founded in 1870 and has an interesting story. For example, it used to to be connected to Canada by rail, Canada KS, that is… (Lyons, Kansas - Wikipedia)

Take aways

MSFS2020 on the XBOX version continues to have challenges
a) during leg from KSBN to KOSH with all the fly-in participants, XBOX msfs struggled with frame rates (especially getting close to KORD)
b) all the fly-in aircraft were displayed as generic so that was really dissapoining
c) GPS stopped scrolling
d) GNS530 shut off and wouldn’t restart while on final (KORD) - landed on the numbers anyways but Murphy’s Law strikes at the most inconvenient times!
e) had to exit msfs completely and restart the app to rejoin the fly-in (super lame)
MSFS2020 on the XBOX needs some fairly serious attention to allow a similar experience to the PC version
KLYO was a great surprise and a nice stop on a long flight (Lyons, Kansas - Wikipedia)
20kt tailwind really helped me on my 600+ mile leg from KLYO to KSBN so that I could meet up with the Oshkosh fly-in on time
fly-in hosts were great on the MSFS Twitch channel and the simmer pilots were great to see!
