What did you do in MSFS today? (Part 1)

After getting the Corsair fixed and earning enough of the Crew Chief’s trust enough for him to let me fly his plane again, we were transferred out to the middle of nowhere - Midway Atoll at the far northwestern edge of the extended Hawaiian archipelago. After quick demonstration flight around the coral ring and the two tiny islands to let the squadron CO know it was okay to let me fly in the unit, and then back to the airbase over on the East Island to take a look around the equipment and facilities.

Morning climb out from FAAB Alexander Bay leaving South Africa for FYWB Walvis Bay Namibia

The Twin Otter may not be fully polished and may have some tweaking yet to complete, but I like and enjoy it. I’m one that prefers good audio. Although the Twin Otter has rough transitions, I still like the audio it provides.

The southern dunes of Namibia

They are captivating in their own way

I had the RNP Rwy 09 approach to FYWB. The Twin Otter with the PMS50 GNS530/430 was able to capture a glideslope and made for an easy hand flown landing.

Arrival at Walvis Bay International. It may be the only time I land here, but I still consider the scenery purchase worth it.

Time warp to the next morning to fly from FYWB Walvis Bay to FYWH Windhoek Namibia. It’s somehow refreshing and invigorating to take off in the mornings in MSFS. Even more so the few times I’ve used my VR headset; you can almost feel the warmth from the virtual sun.

Morning climb out

Some of the shapes of Namibia

I had the ILS Rwy 26 approach to FYWH. The Twin Otter with the PMS50 530/430 initially captured the glidesslope but couldn’t hold it. I started to drop below the GS due to extending flaps and not compensating with power. I couldn’t get it to recapture after adding power, so I just took control and hand flew a normal landing.

Arrival at Windhoek terminal. The airport scenery was decent.

We depart on the southerly runway on a NUGAR departure and head out to the west avoiding the busy airspace surrounding London. We overfly Southampton and the Isle of Wight before heading over the English Channel and Jersey, followed by Dinard St. Malo. Continuing south we pass by La Rochelle and Bordeaux and descend on the MAGEC STAR that leads us over Hossegor and Capbreton on the coastal approach to the easterly runway. Heavy breaking gives us a short taxi onto stand.

DLC is Flightbeam LFBZ which is very nicely recreated.

Lovely flight but was very disappointed to see the black screen bug on final approach though. I tried to fly the 747—8 from Heathrow to Frankfurt at the weekend but got CTD trying to adjust ND range, this was even before pushback. Fiddling with FMC or anything on ND is the most likely cause of CTD in this sim.

Made it to Kansas. The weather once again keeping it interesting, with increasing cloud cover and scattered snow showers to the south and east. I love the cockpit layout in “Baby Boomer”, but it seems to be the one T-6 without pitot heat, and I thought I was really going to need it today. My approach wasn’t stable turning base to short final into Scott City, but I somehow greased the landing on the snow dusted runway.

I flew from Calgary to Winnipeg in the A320. The weather looked fantastic during the entire flight, especially on the approach to Winnipeg. However, when I landed, I could not see my taxi markers, and the tower acted like I did not contact them correctly, so it kept asking me to acknowledge taxi instructions. It was bizarre, but I enjoyed the flight overall.

I intend to purchase both the FW-190 and Bf-109 from FlyingIron. I hope there isn’t going to be a trend of players trying to initiate combat maneuvers while I’m touring the World in the appreciative retirement years of these aircraft. Within the MSFS World, I prefer to herald these aircraft for their engineering contribution to the Aviation World and the distinction in which they served. Although I also intend to fly the addons in their respective wartime colors for historical accurracy, I respect that the war is long over and I will not foster any hatred nor bias towards the aircraft that served - nor the virtual pilots that appreciate them. It is unfortunate that the horrors of the past are so desired to be re-lived by those of today.

I may have to opt out of MSFS multiplayer in the future.

After work this afternoon, I took a late afternoon winter sunset flight around NYC in the Corsair. Live weather was stunningly beautiful tonight.

Hi,
just wondering if you were aware of the Chart Tray at the bottom of the insrument panel. I see that in all your posts, that you always run with what appears to be the default 50% fuel loadout of MSFS. The Chart Tray allows you to remove the external tanks.

Yep, I know. I just don’t necessarily bother with changing the load out. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t. Tonight I just wanted to catch sunset around one of my favorite places in the sim - the SamScene 3D New York Times + RKBridger New York bridges + WeLoveVFR Region 2 makes this area at sunset and nighttime just stunning. I just spawned on the the active departure runway for KLGA and took off.

After this flight, I flew around Oahu in the usual busy multi-player skies - I took off from Ford Island with a couple of simulated bombs, a load of .50 cal ammo (blanks of course) and did a combat air patrol around the island. Good times.

Landed on my 1st double lane runway lol
