Well, not today, but recently – I discovered people embedded in the photogrammetry:

I’ve broken Arizona airfields into five tours and am in the beginnings of the second tour in the Cessna 172. Today’s leg led me to what turned out to be a challenging field that I probably should’ve left well enough alone with the C172.

4AZ6/Parson’s Field is at 3760 ft MSL and measures 1730 ft on Google Maps. I approached following the Trout Creek canyon, did a flyover and lined up to land from the north.

That first attempt wound up landing embarrassingly hard. So I decided to work on some full stop takeoffs and landings to get better at reading the terrain and my short field attempts.

This spot is not a good match with this aircraft. At 2300 lbs for that altitude & temp, my 50ft obstacle clearance at takeoff was right at the edge of capabilities. I did manage to get in and out tightly but smoothly on a couple runs after realizing northbound takeoff and landing were the best way.

Landing northbound definitely worked out better, even though, comparing to Google Maps, I suspect the photogrammetry trees made things way more treacherous than they truly are.

This will be one of my go-tos when I feel the need for a local challenge.

I was humbled and reminded of how spoiled I’ve become, having purchased the Hype Performance Group H145. I haven’t flown the FlyInside Bell 47G in a few months - added a few more crashes to my tally.

Weather looks fantastic here! Is this with MSFS Live-Weather on? Or Weather Rex?

A bit overexposed though.

Thanks. Its a weather theme I created. It works for now but I have no idea if SU8 will change that.
The high level clouds only do that if there are mountains around. I’m not sure if thats a bug or by design. If you want to try the theme, note that there is a bug that ties the high cloud density to the lowest level clouds and another bug that limits the density to ‘1.0’ (upon loading of the saved file) so adjust the density of the lowest cloud level to make it look good to you.

Haven’t seen you around. I’ve been wondering what you’ve been up to!

Glad to see you’re still flying.

I flew the Cessna 172 from Miami Executive to West Palm Beach (Palm Beach County Park). I turned the weather off and enjoyed a sunny day in the air cruising along the coast.
