Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden (EDSB) to Marseille (LFML) in the HondaJet

I did not have much time recently, but finally managed to take a breather and fly the HondaJet. Luckily both Karlsruhe and Marseille had ATC online, while most of the world did not, so I could fly at least the departure and the arrival in controlled airspace.

Arriving to Marseille is pretty spectacular, the initial approach route is almost like a “circle to land” with a beautyful view on the city, the shore and the mountains. I must fly here again sometime.

Typical  When you want to get higher all the air goes down, when you want to land all the air goes up…

On a side note, I noticed that the vario, in the LS8 at least, is wildly incosistent with the altimeter. The vario quite often shows the opposite how the altimeter changes, which I do not think is right, since both use the same static pressure port

Today I decided to fly with Brazilian low-cost airline Gol Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes.

The journey from rainy Porto Alegre (Salgado Filho Intl [SBPA]) to Rio De Janeiro (Santos Dumont [SBRJ]). Distance flown: 644 nm, travel time: 1 h 39 m

There is the buzzy “vario”, which tells about energy (altitude and speed), and the silent variometer at the right of the altimeter, which tells you about altitude variation. You may get lower and faster while gaining energy, you may spend energy slowing down while climbing and any other combination of this. Gliding is basically an energy game, and this energy is expressed in both altitude and speed.

ICON A5 at F57 Jack Browns Seaplane Base

Successfully figured out how to start on land at Jack Browns Seaplane Base, enter the water, take off, land back on the lake, and get back on land at the seaplane ramp. (First try I beached on the ramp and could not put the gear down.) (Also had to use ctrl-E to start engines, ICON A5 cold and dark start didn’t work for me.)

Ready to Go

Returning it is hard to find the ramp visually

Be sure to put the gear down just before reaching the ramp
