What did you do in MSFS today? (Part 2)

My first shot, pre-Greenshot, real time, at default EGLL with the 747. It would be a long time before I ever tried to fly it, but I sure flew a lot of GA. Learned VFR techniques I’d ignored flying Commercial airliners in FSX/P3D. Lordy, what will 2024’s launching actually perform as and when will I make the switch over? Until then, 2020 is my home and sky. Cheers!

I decided to fly from Las Cruces NM to Alamogordo as I wanted to revisit White Sands. Saw some great natural fractals there:

Then I flew up North to the Valley of Fires Rec. area to contrast the White Sands with black lava:

Coming back to the park I saw some big (secret??) buildings:

So I landed on top of one of them and I got stuck, the aircraft was locked down:

However, by going into Slew mode and then out (without any slewing) I was catapulted off the roof like a carrier. I was then able to proceed to Alamogordo and land safely away from the clutches of the aliens or MiB personnel. Whew.

Today we continued our trek across Idaho, starting fairly late in the day at Indian Creek (S81). The Kodiak was as nimble as ever getting us off the ground and, although we made a couple of wrong turns, our misdirection helped us to discover Thomas Creek (2U8) and Flying B Ranch (12ID). At this point however, the sun was getting noticeably lower in the sky and I personally wanted to take advantage of the extra hour of sleep we will get tonight, so we hustled down to Otter Bar. Nice and simple, right?

Not quite.

The landing strip at Otter Bar (KOB9 - Fictional, found on Flightsim.to) sits atop a little ridge overlooking the Salmon River. It took us a few tries, but we eventually got on the ground and were met by a cozy little campsite just as evening approached. This just might be a nice place to stick around a few days, assuming this wind on the ridge doesn’t keep ol’ Max and I up at night.

Quick pitstop before we hit the skies.

What did you do in MSFS today? I enjoyed the view even if I spent hours on editing San Diego Gillespie KSEE with a brand new overhaul of taxiway lights

My first full short-hop with the FBW A380X (EGLL - EBBR)
Even parked it on the stand that generally an A380 parks on (if arriving into EBBR as a diversion  )

Made good use of weekend vatsim coverage and flew the Longitude from Graz (LOWG) to Berlin Brandenburg (EDDB):

Not a butter landing by all means, but I really enjoyed the flight. A big shout out to Wien and Bremen Radar controllers, great job!

Full flight video uploading currently, expect it a lot later:

As always, when a new aircraft comes, it takes me many days to learn how to fly it cold and dark, configure control with my hardwares, and also customize my favorite camera views (cockpit and wingsview) until I am sure that really could fly it properly:

Today we finished up this current round of bush trips in the Kodiak, starting at Otter Bar (KOB9 - fictional), and initially heading over via GPS to say hello to the folks at the USFS airstrip Krassel (24K). From there, we followed the Salmon River up to Hettinger Ranch (IDHT - fictional), to have a late breakfast, but there were…issues…trying to get up and out of Hettinger. Let’s just say it almost seemed as if we were in the Twilight Zone and almost didn’t survive the experience! I sure did learn a lot about stalling though.

At that point I received a message that I needed to get up to Lewiston to catch a flight over to PDX. As soon as we arrived in Lewiston, there was a CJ4 waiting for us, so we hopped in for the quick trip to Portland. Max and I aren’t exactly sure what comes next, but but it sounds like they might need me to fill in over at Frontier Airlines for a couple of flights. We’ll see.
