Charlotte (KCLT) to Hilton head island (KHXD) in the fs studios e175LR, we need a Carolinas world update, because the I landed at Hilton-head island but hit the tree line at the other end of the runway attempting to break on the runway ![]()
Flew Hilton Head (KHXD) to Charlotte (KCLT) in the Asobo ATR 72 600 (Surprisingly a good aircraft for that route) flight time was 1 hour and 40 minutes
East by North East, back across the Taiga once more, heading for the Verkhoyansk Range. This part was fairly monotonous even though there are one or two towns scattered about.
I had to make a stop before venturing into the range. Microsoft’s online Flight Planner has two airfields along the river at the Western edge of the mountains, whereas the sim has their Nav-aids but not the airstrips and instead has an airport between the two which the planner doesn’t have. I feel like I’m flying into the ends of the earth with out of date charts.
Speaking of which. I used Claude.ai to make this browser based tool to help me roleplay my adventures. It’s basically a payload page but it let’s you add and subtract consumable supplies (in day steps) and spare Avgas as well as choose various kit options. It then spits out what to put in your cargo field in sim to match up the payload. It even gives you an endurance estimate with a separate readout that includes your spare cans if you have them. I even tried to mimic the in-game styling somewhat.
I know AI is a contentious subject, but I’d never in a million years be able to make this myself, so it’s quite exciting to be able to create this tool for myself.
But the planning is only in service of the flying… and the mountains are calling.
After crossing over to Taiwan yesterday, I continued across Southern China to Kép Air Base north of Hanoi. A gorgeous low-level flight through mountains and foothills, with beautiful rivers and lakes in-between. Also my second-longest flight on this World Tour so far - the only one that covered more ground was the one from Adak to Petropavlovsk!
Charlotte (KCLT) to Charleston international (KCHS) in the next gen embrear 110, flight time was 57 minutes,
Only a short trip from Kép in Vietnam to Chiang Rai in Northern Thailand. Landing turned out to be quite the challenge with fog (or smog) so thick I basically saw the runway the moment my wheels touched the ground. Exciting!
after a weeks holiday, I managed to just have enough time to do a short hop into Melbourne as part of my Australia tour.
I enjoy the sim the most when there are live players going in and out of the airports. And there was lots at Melbourne tonight, 4 on hold for takeoff and 5 for landing. Everyone being patient on the ground and kept space good between us landing planes.
Charleston (KCHS) to Raleigh county memorial (KBKW) in the carenado B200, flight time was 1 hour and fifteen minutes, (the fs studios embrear 190 decided to not let me fly an airliner today so I went with plan b because there I don’t have an a220 backup plan for those routes yet)
Flew the King Air 200 from Ocean Reef 07FA to Hilton Head Island KHXD with my smoothest landing that I could recall. Didn’t know I had landed until the nose started rotating down
Test SU5 Beta 1.7.21.0 and the new Tobii settings
I flew from MCO to LGW in the PMDG 777.
Had the PMDG 747 back in the FS2004 days. Been using the default A320 to ease my way back in after many years off before taking the plunge with some heavy metal.
I am a fan of the 777 on FS24… not so much in real life though!
(Pics are in reverse order for some reason)
That’s the SPAD, right? Can you tell me some about the modding you mentioned (you can also send me a PM if you don’t want so “spam” here)?
EDIT: Nevermind, found it.
Flew the Asobo ATR 42 600 from Raleigh County Memorial (KBKW) to Buffalo (KBUF) flight time was 40 minutes
Buffalo (KBUF) to Atlanta (KATL) in the Fenix a321 and flight time was 2 hours and 15 minutes
Since Godefroy flew under the Arc du Triomphe in 1919 others have since ‘threaded the needle.’
This goes for the Eiffel Tower as well ….. they’ve even flown a Mosquito under it in 1944 and a P51 Mustang chasing a 109 in 1944 also.
But nobody has done them both. That is until 1991 if the story is to be believed.
A Murdy Cap 10 (fore runner of the Robin) was “borrowed” from Lognes flying club (LFPL).
The pilot flew under the Tower, crossed the Seine and flew under the Arc …. a ‘twofer.’ The aircraft was found (sans pilot) abandoned in a field at Ferolles-Atilly.
So I set off from Lognes (LFPL) in the Robin Cap 10
Flew the 16 miles at very low level to try to avoid radar. (A feat of concentration in itself for the mystery pilot)
First the Eiffel Tower, that was easy, just need to pull up quick on the other side….but it is a first rate aerobatic aircraft.
Across the Seine
And finally under the Arc du Triomphe.
The Robin is a stock plane in the Sim, just won’t loop, which is a shame for an aerobatic aircraft. Roll rate is spot on, the real Robin has a 320 degree roll per second. I used the Mcgouge mod, which slows the roll rate sadly, but it will loop.
