Mess around in career mode
Circumnavigated Port Phillip Bay from Phillip Island (YPID) to Apollo Bay (YAPO) in the Beechcraft Bonanza G36.
Melbourne on the horizon:
Flying down Victoria Street:
Hmmm - no helicopter on the pad. Perhaps they are behind me since I failed to get clearance to fly this low over the city center!

What did I do in MSFS today? I’ve updated my KPVF Placerville, CA airport scenery to the last standard of MSFS2024/2020
(EGCB) Barton Aerodrome - (EINN) Shannon Airport
This evening I flew a Douglas DC-3 “Ole Dusty” from Barton Aerodrome (EGCB), in Greater Manchester, England, to Shannon Airport (EINN) using Say Intentions.
I decided to use “Ole Dusty” to go back to the very basics of Aviation Navigation, using the Sperry Gyropilot as opposed to an autopilot, and using only VOR stations and vectors from ATC.
I cruised at FL100 with an average speed of around 190MPH, through icing conditions and limited visibility, but somehow, almost miraculously, I managed to land on Rwy 24 at Shannon on the first approach. The flight was a testament to how good Say Intentions ATC is.
There is something about this style of old school navigation that really brings aviation alive.

Flew the HondaJet from Inverness (EGPE) to Manchester (EGCC) on Vatsim:
It was a fun flight, though I didn’t quite get what EGCC APP wanted of me when it first instructed me to descend to 3500’, luckily when I asked to say that part again he said it wasn’t important and I should just descend to 3500’. Then keeping the heading I was told to keep I overflew the GP, so I got a new heading to turn back and was cleared for the approach. Unfortunately I activated APP mode too soon and the plane ignored my HDG setting and tried to capture the glidepath from a huge angle, so it overshot again. APP asked me if I wanted to continue or go around, but at that point it seemed simple to correct for it by just turning off the AP and flying manually. I managed to get back on track, but then as I was readying my charts for the landing I descended way below the glideslope and approached from a really shallow angle. At this point it would have been best to go around but I really couldn’t so I landed anyways. It was smooth and all, but I still had the shame of a bad approach execution and get-there-itis onboard so my joy wasn’t unclouded.
Anyways if you want to check it out the full flight was recorded and uploaded to Youtube:

Not a huge fan of the native career mode (I’ve only used it once or twice; it’s just not my thing the way it is set up), so I’ve been messing around with creating my own “career mode” by tracking costs through a spreadsheet and trying to earn money to buy my next plane. Took my first set of passengers in the Black Square Caravan Prof. from KOAK to KRNO. A beautiful day to fly and test out the radio navigation systems.
